I would be intertested in your opinions on how much larger diameter pull rods vs. small effect tone. Also the alloy of the pull rods. I noticed on the klines for example the pull rods looked massive. |

In "the world according to chas", I think the issue is more, how much stuff is attached to the fingers of the changer and how much of the damping effect, it has on the finger. A good example is the push/pull Emmons, where the attachment to the finger is pretty minimal. |

Chas,
That makes sense. I had a hip shot bridge on my tele. The base plate was 3 times thicker than stock. It passed less vibration on to the guitar body. |

Well Chas, that is true for the raise finger, but do you think the same applies to the lower finger? |

Gary, was the Hipshot a B, or B/G bender? If so, there's a felt pad on the bottom that won't transfer any vibrations to the body. Mine is screwed down to the face of my guitar, and the felt was removed first. Pretty good, tone-wise. |

I think it's hard to make blanket statements about the pull rods, there's so many other variables in the equation. Some rods are long, some are short, some have locating holes or slots and some don't, some are steel, some are aluminum or titanium, some are large and some are small, and lastly...some guitars just have far more than others. Now, that last point is important, because I figure that if the mass of the pull rods did have a significant effect, then guitars with fewer pulls and pedals (regardless of the make) would sound far better than guitars with many more pulls and pedals.
What do you think? |

If I was thinking of the right things, I'd probably agree with you.

I don't know. It doesn't seem to be a problem. I remember talking to Morrell when he had the T-10 Bigsby. He said that the neck with fingers sounded noticeable better than the neck without. The Emmons has 2 fingers per finger and that seems to make a difference.

When I'm not playing it, I enjoy talking about it. Ever notice how surfers look at the ocean when they're not surfing. You don't see tennis players looking at courts, pool players looking at tables, and so forth...., the same way. |

John,
The hipshot I have has a cam for each string with a 3 way adjustment on each cam. The cams are behind the saddles and the ball of the string attaches to the cam. Its all mounted on a steel plate. It seems to make string bending easier but tone wise the tele sounds more like a gibson with it on. Most the time I drop the high and low E's to D so I put the stock tail peice back on.
Thanks for the reply's on my topic. I have never played or owned a steel with the larger size pull rods. |

My large-rodded Kline. Great sounding, and playing guitar. Not sure if the rod diameter has anything to do with it though.

John,
That's a wild looking Danelectro. My wife bought me one for Chrismas about 6 years ago. She gave me sox and t-shirts and gave the guitar Red Ryder style. They are the Volkswagon of electric guitars!
I have been thinking about kline guitars since I saw a wt. universal for sale on the forum. There are times I could use a 2nd guitar. Hows the pedal action on yours? Ive been told there tone machines. |

This is easy.
Just take all the rods off and listen to the difference. _________________ 1983 Emmons D10 SKH, Carter SD10, Nashville 112, Session 500, ProfexII, Lapsteels, GT-Beard reso, guitars of all kinds...

I don't know about the rods, I think the REAL difference is if you use stainless steel screws! |

Gary, it's been a long held belief black guitars sound best so I was thinkin black rods might be the next big thing in the quest for the ULTIMATE TONE. |

How about purple rods? How would that sound? Or...perhaps...orange ones? |

Dick, Ya got me!
I was thinking high tech fiber carbon space metal. I guess at the end of the day there are alot of great guitars out there. |
