There's currently a thread on this over in the STEEL PLAYERS section. It's on page 2 as of now. Let's see if I am successful with the link to the thread.

Jeff -

Here's what I use. You can get it at Home Depot/Lowes for about $6. One can will last you a lifetime. I haven't been playing very long, but I gave a set to a vet. player and he's happy with them.

Just dip the "band" part of the pick and let dry on a toothpick. The plastic comes in yellow, black and red.

Jeff

I didn't comment on the other thread but what I have
done is use fir pitch mixed with a little de-natured alcohol
put one little drop on you index finger and then touch your
thumb & middle finger to it -- your picks will not come off
during a gig -- I Gar-on-tee

Don't get it on the bar or you will sound like a fiddle . Shocked

Well, you could consider getting pick implants like I did. You only have to stop playing for about six weeks or so. Laughing Laughing

I stated on the other thread, for me GORILLA SNOT works great, over the years I have tried all kinds of things,A small plastic jar for around five bucks will last for months, takes just a [SMALL] amount on your thumb and picking fingers, easy and fast to use, your picks WILL NOT fall off.Can be bought at most music stores or musicians friend.DYKBC.

I was going to be a smartass and say Superglue, but, who knows, someone might take me seriously and try it. Laughing

Hi Jeff,
You can always do what I've done with mine for years.
I think you've seen mine while you've been here.
Get some Heat Shrink Tubing from Radio Shack.
They'll feel better and won't slip off either.
Next time you're here, I'll see if I got any left.

I found a solution that works real well. At the beginning of the gig Sat night I carefully placed the picks on the body of my guitar between the necks and played bare-fingered all night. Imagine my astonishment at the end of the night when I noticed they hadn't moved the least little bit. No Gorilla Snot, Super Glue or spit or anything. They were right where I'd left them, and I think I'll just leave them there for awhile. Good grief, I hate those things. Like playing piano with gloves, or taking a shower with a raincoat, or having sex with... well, you know. I look forward to the night when I'll gleefully toss them out on the dance floor and see how many couples 2-step on the little metal bastages.

That's funny! Cool

But seriously, Cal, how's the tone when you play like that, with thems neked fingers?

Nobody even noticed, so either my tone sucks to begin with, or it sounds the same. You'd think it'd sound different wouldn't ya? That's what I thought, but it sounds the same to me. I'm attacking the string with the finger tip (skin) or the nail or both, and that's a technique that's gonna require some work and experimentation. I've got 3 gigs this week and I can't wait to see if last Sat was just an anomaly or if it's really gonna work for me. The most awkward thing to do is to pick the first string with the second finger on a fast lick.
