Old topic, but what's the specific adjustments (screw tension) for keyhead, changer and aluminum neck resulting in best sustain?
On a maple body and maple neck MSA, I found all screws tight resulted in great sustain. Tried it on an aluminum neck guitar and it died. I need keyhead, changer and neck adjustment facts.

I have played my Carter with and without the neck and the sound is still awesome with or without the neck. Go figure! _________________ LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN GEORGIA |

Dennis,
I don't remember seeing any specific numbers, such as (xx inchpounds), etc. What I would recommend is tighten the keyhead, and changer to where you feel comfortable that it will not come loose, and create a problem. Then loosen all the screws on the neck, then snug them down, check the tone/sound, then tighten them in 1/2 turn sequence and note the different tone, you may want to start on one end and check as you go.

Bill gives good advice. Different guitars (even the same brand and model) may react differently.
Of course, all this presupposes that you need to do something in the first place. If it ain't broke, don't (try to) fix it! There have been cases where someone started out to correct a problem that didn't exist, and was never able to get the guitar back as good as when they started. ALWAYS get a second opinion before you start screwing or unscrewing things. |
