I saw that when they first put it up. They bought the guitar for their daughter who played it a couple years and then it went in the closet. The amp was a piece of poop Univox or something but the guitar looked like the day it left the factory - talk about a time capsule!!

That wasn't even a "round front" LDG...ha.
You can see there was a bidder in there with ZERO transactions....that seem to bid bid bid; and kept running up the bids...>obviously a "sand bagger"....that's a shame.
Yes a steel is worth whatever someone will pay for it....but that particular LDG; to me, ain't worth anything over 2 grand > if that.

Let's see if it gets relisted. It's not unusual to see something go for seemingly big bucks only to see the bidder back out.

The buyer may have tipped his hand. I saw that last summer. A buyer offered a high buy it now price. The seller realized how bad he wanted it. And they, the sellar and friends worked him over pretty good. Off course I have no proof of this. But it makes sense if you think about it. This kind of thing has gone on in auto auctions for 70 years.bb

It is always worth what someone will pay for it.

Mint condition instruments always bring a big premium. If it indeed was unused, then it was worth it to the fellow who got it.

There is NO WAY that guitar actually sold for $4,500. That guitar will either relist, or the seller will take a lower price outside Ebay. Some joker bid up the ying-yang out of testosterone and is now either sweating or laughing about it, depending on his concern about feedback. Even a round front closet classic wouldn't fetch close to this price.

I can't see how the $4500.00 is real, considering that an immaculate round front LDG has failed to sell twice for $2500.00 and is now sitting at $1750.00 with 4 bids...... if I didn't already own 2 73 LDGs, I would be all over that one.

Yeah, like "Where's the buyer's head?". There was a mid '60s Fender 400 on ebay with missing parts that's got 40 bids and has gone for $2275 - over twice what it's worth (that is, if the auction is real). What was that old saw about a fool and his money being soon parted? Whoa!

Hi Donny . Saw you guys on the Opry last Saturday evening . That Show~Pro sounded great . I was hoping they would let you have a ''great big'' solo but Randy hawged it all Laughing I know all of us steel players would like to see more steel solos but people didn't come to hear that did they ? I'm thankful for the singers that are still using a steel guitar in their act . When i hear a singer live on tv he better have a steel player if he wants to keep my attention ! Anyway it was great to see Randy and the gang on the Opry . G.P.

I think that given the current economic climate, prices on lots and lots of things will come down.

Chris, I offered you 600 bucks for the world's ugliest Emmons and you declined. Heck, you would have made a 100 bucks on that transaction... :- ) That's 1/50th of your latest biopsy procedure -- I thought you would be muy impressed by my boundless generosity.

No, don't thank me now.

So, now, the question:

What's the value of an LDG (or any guitar, for the matter) that's "not for sale"?

If you look at completed Ebay sales of LDG's both on the forum and Ebay, you'd be hard-pressed to find a REAL sale over $2,500. In this sense, Not for sale" can mean "overpriced". But anything over $2,000 is pretty darn good for an instrument that does not register on most musicians/listeners' radar screens.

This is just freaky. I guess it's for real. It's amazing how a few auctions like this can drive up a guitar's worth.

I don't think it's Ebay's fault for the retarded prices, I think it's the fault of the people who don't know when to quit bidding! I think Ebay is a good place to sell, but a lousy place to buy.
