Did you happen to notice that the show was patterned after the old radio shows with an announcer which happened to be the "Walking encycylopedia of country music", Eddie Stubbs? Great Show! _________________ 2006 Zum D10 8x8,1969 ZB Custom D10,

Just wonderful. Perfect band and guests...I'm video taping this stuff as well as the Porter, Pop Goes The Country, and the Wilburns on RFD-TV. RFD is great, but I'll bet one day they'll change the format. It's happened before, remember the old TNN days in the 80's? |

It is a shame that we cannot get RFD up here in yankee land. I would be glued to the TV if it was offered here in northern Ohio. :cry:javascript:emoticon('')

Yeah - we don't get it out here yet either.
I'm a big Marty Stuart guy. He has such a love and respect for country music.
I found a little "taste" of the show in the link below, from Mary's Superlatone Records site. When you get there select the white letters "RFD-TV" (between "Store" and "American Odyssey" along the top) and it will take you to the web page containing the video:

Hi Fellow forumites: Do any of you have either direct TV or Dish Net-work satelite dishes?
I'm surprised that you folks in northern Ohio and northern Cal. can not have it. I live in northern N.Y. State [ Way out in the boom-docks, so to speak. ] We watch it all the time; all kinds of programming; Especially on Saturday nites; There's Crook and Chase; Midwest Country Show; and now, Marty's brand new show from Nashville; Yes, guys, Sat's show with Connie and Weldon Merrick and Guest was Little Tater Dickens was a fine show.. And during the week there are re-runs of many of the old syndicated shows such as " The Wilburn's Bros"; The Porter Wagoner Show and a few others. All featuring good country music and stars of the past. Contact some of your net work people and see if they can't get signed on with the RFD folks in Nashville. If you want the address of the folks to contact RFD Headquarters , drop me an E Mail and I'll see you get it [ the address ] O.K?

I DVR the Marty Stuart show as well as Hee Haw. I think the MS show is really killer. Traditional style show, with Marty and his band sounding great. I think the tone Gary Carter had with Connie was terrific. Did anyone catch what he was playing thru? It was clean, and his playing was great...
Anyone else diggin these guys as well as the old Hee Haw shows??? |

Did you notice all of the old Nudie suits hanging in the background? Part of Marty's collection, no doubt. The Leroy Troy that you see on the show is just how the real Leroy is in person. No put on's there. He is a natural. The banjo bit he does when he twirls it is really good if there is no background music. The banjo keeps going as he flips it as he plays it with his left hand while twirling. It's hard to hear it with the backup musicians. I called him and told him so and he told me had requested them to back him up but hopefully wll change that. What a great show. Takes me back to, well I hesitate to say when.

Would anyone know what happened to the other bass player Marty had? I reckon he'd been with him a while. Wish Marty would give a little history on the Nudie suits and other memorbalia on the walls. Thanks for any replies. |

Kenny,
Marty's last bass player was Brian Glenn. Here's a quote from his myspace page.
Quote: |
After leaving the Superlatives at the beginning of 2008, Brian continues to perform live around the country as well as continuing his studio work and live performances in Nashville. This includes playing and singing with the staff band for the 2008 season of NBC’s Nashville Star with host Billy Ray Cyrus, performing his own casino shows, and performing for Muhammad Ali at the Ali Center in Louisville, KY to kick off the 2008 Ryder Cup. |
