The Museum of Making Music exhibition, "The Magic & Mystery of Slide Guitar" opened last Saturday in Carlsbad, California. Here's a low-res, sneak peak at just the Western Swing segment from the gallery video I created for the show. Once the show's over, I'll post the entire video.

Sweet job Andy! I've been to the MOMM but its been a couple of years. It's not far from home so I'll definately catch the exibit and hopfully a concert of two before it slips away.

I visited the MOMM Sunday. Wow, nice exibit, I would recommend it to anyone who has the slightest interest in steel guitar. Slide/steel exibits are throughout the museum's 100 year+ history of making music. Not just confined to a small area.

There is some real eye candy on display. Guitars I have only seen pictures of on the web and of course in Andy's book. I was surprised at the lack of Fender steel guitars on display, only two. An early 50s Custom triple and single neck Deluxe. Weis, National, Ric, Gibson and others were well documented. As prolific as the Stringmaster is/was in the history of Steel, I was suprised to find none on display. The modern custom display had a nice selection of Bill Asher's work. One of his Electro Hawaiian Jr. models was avalable for play in the the petting Zoo. The headphones connected to the Roland Micro Cube for the Jr. had a staticy cord so I unplugged them and let it rip for a few minutes. Kudos to Bill for supplying the guitar.

It was a great way to spend a couple of hours on a Sunday afternoon. A Tee shirt for me and a glass guitar Christmas ornament for my GF rounded out the stop in the gift shop!

Thanks to Andy for making me aware of this exibit.
