I know it's been discussed in past posts, but what are your replacement preferences for old screw-on cables? Adapters? New screw-on cables? If relevant, this is for a National Dynamic.

Thanks,

Asa

I have both cables and adaptors. I always carry one of each when I go out to play just in case. With the connector on the audience side of a Dynamic I don't see either being an issue, not for me anyway. My preference is for the cable however.

I just made up a new cord for my old New Yorker. It rarely gets played, but today the cord acted up so I made a new one. Looks like a project to put a jack in place of the Amphenol connector, and it's not that much more effort to use the original cord. Angela.com has the screw-on ends and the adapter, if you want some back-up parts.

Love those Amphenol connectors (and hate it when guys swap them out for 1/4" jacks). Just use a short cable with the female Amphenol connector on one end and a 1/4" switchcraft jack on the other, which allows you to use a normal guitar cable going to your amp, into a PA, or whatever.

Biggest problem with the male Amphenol connector on the guitar is oxidation on the threads, which provides your connection to ground through the cable. Gotta keep it clean. I've had good luck removing the oxidation with a small wire wheel on a Dremel tool.

I was just on the angela.com site looking for amp parts, and noticed the screw-on stuff. The have the adapter part#M5023 to use a normal cord to the screw-on connector, and they even have a new cord with the ends you need for the guitar, but it's 20 feet long!! for 20 bucks.

I just picked up an old 1940s National Dynamic. It has the old amphenol/screw-on connector. It sounds amazing, but the cable that came with it is scratchy. It’s also very long. I saw on Angela.com the connector to 1/4 inch. I might get one. But does anyone know of a 4 foot cable with the screw-on at one end and 1/4” at the other?

Thanks!
