This Saturday’s (11-1-0 weekly edition of “Swingin’ West” can be heard from 2:00- 3:00 PM (eastern) on WVOF-FM (88.5) in Fairfield Connecticut and streams world wide on the Internet at www.swinginwest.com or www.wvof.org
The theme for this week’s show is a salute to the Walkers. It opens with a grouping in memory of Charlie Walker (1926-2008). The next set includes a rare 1940s recording by Jimmy Walker, Leon McAuliffe’s Cimarron Boys from 1947 with Stan Walker on lead guitar and New Mexico’s Curio Cowboys doing a Wiley Walker and Gene Sullivan classic composition with Tom Walker on drums. Then there is a salute to the late Cindy Walker which includes a rare recording of Cindy singing with the Deuce Spriggins band as well as two of Cindy’s compositions. There is one by Art Greenhaw and the Salty Dogs and the other by Steel Guitarist/vocalist Don Sulesky, the listener that suggested the salute to the Walkers theme.
You will also enjoy a group as a tribute to the late Billy Walker including a beautiful cover of one of his Texas dance hall classics by Hoyle Nix and the West Texas Cowboys with a young Jody Nix on vocal. In the final grouping you will hear former Bob Wills vocalist Lou Walker with his own band, Jerry Jeff Walker doing a Western Swing classic and a Wayne Walker composition by the wonderful Ft. Worth group Country Night Live with Dale Morris Jr. on fiddle and vocal.
