howdy, further on the subject of, speakers, when you buy a new speaker basket, are they not complete, do you have to change parts from your old speaker,? lew. _________________ pro1,s two round fronts, one square front, sho-bud, S12, LDG,1977, built by paul franklin sen, [THE PROFESSIONAL]nice all original, bandit65, nash, 400, profex 11,match-box, 7A,DD3, delay, various accoustic guitars, amps, and other necessitys, |

Hey Lew, I believe the Scorpion 15's were used in sound reinforcement systems as well as some bass and maybe keyboard combo amps.
Certain guitar amps used the 12" version and probably PA applications.
Peavey field replacable baskets are complete....everything but the magnet. You just remove the bolts and install the magnet on a new basket. |

I used to have a Peavey Bass Amp (TNT115S) and it had a Scorpion speaker in it. According to the Peavey literature the Scorpion series were designed to emulate the "British" sound.
A Bass Scorpion speaker would probably work for steel, but I don't think they will handle the power a Black Widow will and the Scorpions do not have replaceable baskets. |

Jack, I have a replacement basket for a scorpion 12 inch (4 ohm too). The baskets are replaceable,at least on some models. I have a couple of 12 inchers and they have the 3 bolts holding the basket on just like the BW's. |

Yes, the latest Peavey catalog I can find is 2004, and it shows replacement baskets for 12 and 15 Scorpions. |

The Bass amp I had was a mid 90's model. I never got inside but that was what the Peavey literature showed at the time. |

As Dennis said, the baskets are replaceable. Just like the B/W's, the speaker consists of a magnet assembly and a removeable basket assembly. They are more "middy" sounding than the B/W's, being voiced primarily for straight guitar. The bass would be less, and to my ears they sound somewhat like the JBL ceramic speakers.
With a good amp, they do a fine job for steel, and seem equally as adept at power handling as the B/W's are.
I've used Scorps for the last 15 years, and would consider them better than B/W's for the Mooney, Brumley, and early Lloyd Green type of sound. |

I have a very nice '56 Pro Amp. I gigged with it 5/6 nights a week for 6-string. Not wanting to trash the original speaker, I built a sub-baffle board using a Scorpion + 12". That amp has been in every studio in Cleveland. I still get calls from guys who wanna borrow it for a session, but it no longer leaves my house. It sounds fabulous for lap steel, but I haven't played my pedal guitars through it,,,,yet. |
