Has anybody here broken their wrist and come back to play? I'm just wondering about recovery time and challenges faced when this happens.

I ended up having a plate installed on my radius and I'm a little worried about what my mobility is going to be like when I finally get my cast removed.

Too bad that it had to come at a time when my band is recording an album. At least I'm having a good time drinking beer and listening to the tracking process.

Here's to hoping for a speedy recovery time.

Maybe it's time to get an SD with a pad.

Jumped up on a bar table like a complete idiot to take a guitar solo, spilled a pitcher of beer like a complete idiot, slipped off the table and crashed to the floor like a complete idiot breaking my idiotic wrist and ending the idiotic show. Insert sad trombone sound here: bwaaamp bwamp bwowowow. No plates or anything but my wrist recovered just fine, never bothered me ever since. had no health insurance and cut off my own cast with a matt knife...hehe. Obviously your injury sounds a lil more serious than mine was, but I bet you'll be just fine. Heres hoping you have a quick and complete recovery Tim.

Well... I guess I should share my story as well. It was also incredibly stupid.

The band was loading out after a successful show. Some knuckleheads were fighting at the end of the alley. Our bassist who happens to also be a bartender at the establishment walks over and tells them to knock it off. They apparently didn't like to be told what to do...so... words were exchanged and all of a sudden Darryl and our guitar player are getting pounded on by a couple of white boy wannabe gangstas.

Long story short, I jumped in and laid a whopper on the side of some big dudes head (broke my fifth metacarpal there). When I did that, a couple of his friends jumped in and came after me with fists flying. I decided to retreat since I have no business fighting 1 guy let alone 2. They ended up shoving me into a brick wall where I broke my wrist trying to soften the blow.

That was probably the first time I've actually punched someone in the face since high school. Now I know why I don't like to get into fights.

There is much more to the story that includes pit bulls (no joke), a broken rib (not me), eye gouging, and people almost getting run over by a car. Pretty much everyone in the band ended up with at a few bumps and bruises. Not sure how the other guys were feeling the next day... I'm guessing not too well after the police came knocking on the door.

Jim, I had the Ulna head in my right wrist replaced with a Titanium bolt. The Ulna is that bump on the top of the wrist at the little finger side. It looks a little wierd but I don't guess it affected playing very much.

well... I'm 1/3rd of the way through the process at this point. At least I know I have mobility in my pickin fingers. I'm sure I'll be fine. Heck.. I only know a handfull of licks anyway. It won't take much to relearn em anyway.

thanks for all the good words friends

I broke 5 bones in my left wrist playing ball and the doctor that operated for five hours told me I may never use it again. The bones were lined up and one rod went through sideways and one lengthways to hold in place for nine weeks until the cast came off.Happily I can say I have 99 % use of my wrist and it's one of the few joints with no arthritis. My golf game improved a lot but I might have to break the other wrist to improve my steel playing. The fact that I played guitar and fiddle probably made the recovery happen a lot faster. With the right attitude and some therapy you should be fine.
Good luck
