Do you practice using your rack assy or use an amp to save the use of hours on the tubes and rack units??
I do a little of both but mainly thru an amp because it is already set up and handy.

Ive gotten away from playing my rack at home. Currently its much easier using the FoxMod NV400, and leaving it setup. My rack stays in the garage next to the car....saves the leg muscles!...

I use a Alesis Multimix 8 usb 2.0 and a pair of headphones, it got a really nice sound ,very little setup time. I also use a mp3 player with the music I need to learn, I can play any time night or day without disturbing other members of the household...

I pretty much practice 90% of the time thru the BOSS MICRO BR, of course I did write TWO different INPUT patches, one for Guitar and one for Steel.

Rather than booting up my entire studio setup or using my gig gear , this seems to be QUITE easy !

Writing input patches is pretty simple for this little unit, the biggest problem, just like Eyeglasses, if you put it down you can forget where you put it and spend a half hour trying to find it ! Crying or Very sad

PS, the other 10% of my practice time is at moderate volume thru the amps and / or effects. Don't forget to practice thru your GIG gear now and then.

I love the sound of my "rack unit". (tube preamp with Lexicon efx processor) So much so, that I don't want to practice, or rehearse without that sound.

Now , I live in condo community, so I can't be loud.

Therefore. I use the output from my preamp and efx unit to a mixer, to a pair of small self-powered Mackie near-field monitors. I mix in trax or songs from my iPod, or CD. If the volume is too much at 3 am, I use headphones.

My settings translate to my power amp and speaker cabs. No tweaking.

Computer is the rack...M-Audio box on PSG is USB device, Software is IN TONE +, output to BLUETOOTH headset for peace and quiet, or wireless via output on headphone to amp if "blow the house down". No tubes, Hi Z load to pickup, more "stuff" to tweak than is legal.

Interesting question, I use my rack system these days really only for recording internet sessions at home and on studio sessions. For gigs I have gotten a bit lazy and use my NV400 that resides in the bed of my truck when not in use.

For practice I usually play through a Roger Linn Adrenalinn, so I can practice with headphones, use the drum machine and amp modelers, while practicing picking and intonation with a drone CD.

My wife loves nothing more than to hear me practicing scales to drones, or pick blocking grips to a metronome... ha ha...
