In a recent news letter Bobbe Seymour qouted a guy that asked Why does Bobbe play that way? In other words why does he style his interpretation of melodies the way he does?
I have an answer to the question: Because He Can!!
In my Humble opinion Bobbe is one of the true masters at playing and dancing around and embelishing the melodies. His use of lush chords and multiple strings and notes crossing each other is quite unique and showcases the beauty of this instrument.
As an example, I just picked up his Soulful Steel CD and it is a great example of his style and musical mastery. Of couse we know he is a master at many styles.
I was talking to Dan at SGN the other day and he said he walked in to the repair shop the other day and Bobbe was sitting at a steel sounding like normal. So apparently all of our thoughts, Prayers and well wishes are helping his recovery from his hand injury.
Go Bobbe, we are all pulling for you!

Glad you came out OK the other evening at the hosp.
Regarding the procedure we talked about, that I have become expert at.. that can be distressing if tried by well meaning Semi-Pros...

Bobbe Seymore, is a jerk, I taught him everything he knows about playing a steel and he has never once thanked me. He even stole my best girl from me. How can you like a guy like that.

One of the things that really impressed me about Bobbe's playing, was the fact that he can take any song and make it his. Also, if you listen to any of his recordings, you will notice that he rarely repeats himself in a verse. You get to hear several styles of playing, all in one song.
Like an artist that takes a paintbrush and creates shadows and highlights, Bobbe does this with his steel. Also like a painting, the more you view it, the more you began to see in the picture. It is the same with Bobbe's playing. Each time you listen to his songs, you will probably discover that you hear little licks and phrasings that you did not notice the first time or so.
Bobbe has the talent to "sound" like anyone, but Bobbe is at his best when he plays and sounds like Bobbe. If you do not have any of his recordings, you are missing out on some serious ear candy. His musical base covers anything from jazz to gospel and there is something for everyone to enjoy and hear the total capabilities of what the steel guitar can do when placed in the hands of a master.
He is also one of the few that actually writes and plays his own material and does it consistantly! His mind is on music 24 hours a day and even with the hand injury, he continues to write his own music.
Bobbe has had a setback, but he will be back again and who knows, he may comeback with yet another complete style of playing.
It is indeed great news to hear that he is already sitting at the steel and playing again. I think all his fans (and there seems to be many) can all breathe a little easier now.
Don't know about you guys, but Bobbe is already in my Hall of Fame!

Plus we forgot to mention that Bobbe is a really great guy with a tinge of humor in everything he does.

Wally is 100 percent right,I have said it before,Mr. Seymore is my FAVORITE player,There are lots of GREAT,GREAT, players I like,don't have to name them,everyone knows who they are,But I listen to Mr. Seymore more than the rest put together,He can take ANY song that has been run into the ground,put that SEYMORE TOUCH to it and make it is OWN.I hope and pray he will be back doing what he's done for years,PLAYING BEAUTIFUL STEEL GUITAR MUSIC.DYKBC.

Yeah, Le Bobbster has a tinge of humor for sure. Take for instance the classic song that he does so well entitled, "On Broadway". He ends this classic with a few lines of "Steel Gutar Rag" and he makes it fit. I almost ran off the road when I heard it.
Only the Bobbester could do that and get away with it. He had to be grinning when he did it. He does it on other cuts as well.
One thing you guys may not know is that Bobbe wants to continue in his fathers footsteps of helping others make music. His father went out of his way to help those that wanted to make music. This impressed Bobbe and he is carrying on that tradition started by his father. Bobbe will never try to sell you anything. He will answer all your questions openly and honestly and it really does not make any difference to him if you are a beginner or seasoned pro, you will be treated the same. He values all his customers and want all his customers to be his friends.
If you are planning a vacation to Nashville and if you are interested in the steel, you must make it a point to visit Bobbe. If you are not a fan of Bobbe's, you will be after a visit with him. Also, be prepared to take home a few freebies of T shirts and cd's and anything else that strikes his fancy at the time.
Bobbe Seymour has done more for the steel guitar family than anyone and yet is still not in the Hall of Fame. What's up with that??? 
Ah, but that is another subject altogether isn't it?
Bobbe only chuckles when you mention it and he is completely at ease with where he stands. He does not need the Hall of Fame nearly as badly as the HOF needs Bobbe. Hopefully, these old dingies that are in charge of the HOF fame will wake up and smell the real roses of those that have really contributed to the steel guitar and it's proliferation, and will see the contribution that Bobbe has made and continues to make towards the steel guitar and all it's players and fans.
Me, well as with Bama and James, I count myself lucky to be a fan and friend of Bobbe Seymour.
If you really want to experience his sense of humor, you only have to visit and talk to the man. It's all there.

For what it's worth;
I am really sorry about his mishap with the saw but, the Bobbe I know would capture a way to play great without any hand at all. The "Nashville Slug" will be back on top in no time at all!!

Bobbe, if you are still watching this thread, maybe you can respond to this. My wife and I are planning a trip to Nashville the week of Christmas. Of course we want to make SGN one of our destinations.
Are you going to be in town and at the store during that time?

Bobbe Seymour is my friend and I think I know his heart as well as anyone. I would wager that the Bobbster has already been checking his wings over a hot guitar in the shop. I would even bet he's back to playing some. Any Takers?

Bill F. if your last post is in reference to my post, you must realize that I don't know that the Bobbster is playing steel again. I am just speculating, knowing his character, that I would bet a couple of bucks he's already testing the left hand out. OK???? In any case, his partial recovery, and I'm certain about that, is good news. He'll be back, you can bet on it.

I did in fact read your post wrong and in haste, I guess it was a case of wanting him to be OK again "now" . But, knowing Bobbe it's a safe bet that he has tried, or has some sort of plan to give it a shot real soon.
