It’s interesting to note Ray Price’s cut on “You Took Her Off My Hands” is the very first record that used the Eb and F# (“E-9th chromatic”) strings. Recorded 9/26/62 this was the 2nd song on Buddy Emmons’ first recording session with Price. Emmons had added the Eb and F# strings to his Sho-Bud at the 9 and 10 string slots and was hitting them with his thumb. Although the record leans heavy on the string section, Emmons took the turnaround and in only eight measures changed the course of the pedal steel guitar.
