Been going to physical therapy for some lower back pain and happened to mention a gig where transitioning from a seated 45min set to standing was painful.

That led to the question of what I played and the therapist immediately assumed a psg player's seated and arm positions. He asked what kind of seat I was using (a bench) and recommended a change to a pack-a-seat with back rest and showed me how to modify the seat to accommodate a correct (and painless) seated posture.

I was pretty darned impressed...and grateful.

Sorry to hear about your back problems I know that's painful.
I'm having a small office chair made with lumbar support that breaks down in sections and has no arm rests to use with my PSG when I play gigs.
I use the one pictured all the time at home and I have no problems with it even with the arms. It's just too big to lug around to the gig.

Howard I hope your back begins to feel better.
I have been thru years of phys. Therapy for lower back pain myself. It was very helpful. Lumbar support and good posture are indeed very important. What has worked the best for me, has been daily excercise and stretching targeting the affected areas and the muscles that suppoort them. This has provided lasting relief. It takes some time to be effective.

I am currently suffering with another injury that has had me in chronic pain for over a year now. This one has been harder to treat with excercise as it is not muscular nor structural. I am currently in pain management therapy. Part of this therapy is more steel guitar! Very Happy good medicine.

I'm doing just great. The PT is really helpful and I can look forward to many more years of sleazy bars, honky tonks...etc.

I was just amazed that the therapist knew what a pedal steel was and was able to give seat and posture advise.

Yep, pretty surprising.
As a massage therapist, I spend time with office folks on the ergonomics of their desk, chair, and 'puter.

Bo, that is the coolest room with the retro chairs and table! But I wouldn't want to see you too comfy in your chair; makes you practice too long and get too good.

Howard, I would be very interested in seeing what you have done to your seat. I ruined the disc between L4 and L5 about 11 years ago. I do the exercises every morning and am now trying injections. I have a Cush Case seat with a back rest and a memory foam back cushion. The steel is therapy for me and I usually don't hurt while playing. Don't have any brain cells left to think about it when I'm playing. Although, when it's really flared up, it gets pretty bad before I get the four hours done.
