Used to have one of these. My first reso. They are indeed all acoustic and sound fairly weak and klanky. I think a few had pickups. Don't know for sure. The cone in it is small and there is a cover plate on the back as well, so sound comes out of both sides.
I recall (1972) coming across the US border in San Ysidro (TJ) in a car with this guitar and the US border guards wanting to take the guitar apart. They were certain that I had drugs in that resonator. (Did it sound that bad?). With some pleading with them, they decided to not take the guitar apart - but the car was sure taken apart. |

| It is a model 1033 Hawaiian student resophonic. They were NEVER electric in any way. They were issued in cream pearl, red or black. The spanish guitar version was the Model 1133 in the same colours although a later red pearl instrument was issued. |

| John, can you describe the sound of the Hot Plate? And is it transparent enough not to completely alter the sound signature of a tricone, for example? |

From what i have heard so far that might be the only thing that might help this mongrel. It might actually be one of the best applications for a "hot plate"!!! I don't think there would be as many feedback type of issues. I have never tried or heard a hot plate though.

They do not make a "hot plate" for a tricone that I know of. |
