Hi Everyone
I'm not sure of the year just off the top of his head, Bruce thought it was a 84 85, he was in a hurry.
It dosen't matter this guitar hasn't seen much play time for as old as it is. I've had it for four years
and only played it for three. I don't practice (and it shows) And the guy that owned it be for me didn't play it much either. It plays great, stays in tune, very little tone drop. I believe it's because it has that 7/8's thick front apron. The tone.. I can't say enough about the tone and the tone knob works. The pedal set up is just like Mike Freds (well sort of). It's on the web site here. I want $3175.00 that should cover shipping and donation to the forum.
Thank you to the Forum for this post Terry

http://www.zumsteel.net/ Terry, there is a chart here on this site that lists the approximate years based on serial #'s JIC you weren't aware of it. I'm not sure how accurate it is or if it can be considered an official record but, you can check the serial # [inside the left endplate on mine] against this chart to help narrow down the date of mfg.
Good Luck with your sale. Your guitar looks to be in nice condition. I found an '81 a few months back that has some playing time on it, but the mechanics show surprisingly little wear after 27 years. |

This is just some late night rambling while I'm away from home working in Chicago for awhile...
I don't think any of us will live long enough to actually wear one of these things out.
When I was working at Bruce's shop one of my favorite things was reconditioning older guitars. What this usually amounted to was a really good clean up job. You can generally disassemble the changer and after cleaning the axle it's really hard to tell where the fingers were located on the shaft except for a bit of discoloration. We would sometimes replace some of the nylon bushings but that was mainly because they were cheap to replace, not because they necessarily needed it. Jeff Newman sent his trusty old red guitar in for a tune up...I would dare say it had seen a good bit of use !!...and really it was about as good as new. Several other pro players' guitars also came through over the years that had definitely been played a lot. You might find some wear on the pedal connectors or the tuning keys but other than that with a drop of oil here and there a ZumSteel (and probably most other modern guitars)will likely outlast most of us!
Bump up! |

oops
A small mistake on my part the guitar aporn thickness was brought to my attention. It's not 7/8's but it's a little more than 3/4. But just looking at it it looks very thick. The silver trim and formica make up the extra thickness. I never measured it the first time I just asumed it was that thick. Also the copedent is not exactaly like Mike Freds but very simular. and the serial number is
D1085210
Sorry Terry |

Yea Finis I think so too but things will get better after tax season and I'm not worried about selling this guitar so much if it sells fine... if it don't that's fine too. thanks for the look see.
