It was great to see all the Steelers that attended the Florida Steel Guitar Club's monthly meeting. We had some new Steelers and some old ones that haven't been at the meetings for several months.
First,we would like to note that Roy Ayres was with us this month, with his Sierra. Roy had played professionally and recorded with some famous people (and famous songs), such as Pee Wee King and Moon Mulligan. Roy says he got out of the music business for many years. You can't tell it by his smooth playing!
We had two other Steelers visit us for the first time. Ed Gagnon and Dan Blankenship who are from southwest Florida (Ft.Myers and Naples). We hope they enjoyed the club and although I realize it's a long drive I hope they can get back for future club meetings/jams.
Dennis Nurenberg, from Englewood (another long drive) was with us for the first time. Dennis sat in on Bass for the last portion of the jam.
Lou Rochelle and Bud Vandenberg were with us this month.Bud has had other commitments and we can't keep Lou out of Texas so neither has been here for a while.
We had another Steeler visiting for the first time from Tampa.Unfortunately I didn't get his name but he had a unique Push-Pull S-10 that he had built. It's a push-pull but it tunes like an all-pull with the rods and adjusting nuts on the end. Hopefully we can get him back for "show and tell" and to hear the steel.
The other Club member Steelers in attendance were Blake Hawkins, Don Sulesky, Bernie Kelley and Bernie Whittle, and John King and Jack Stoner.
John Thomas was a late arrival but still got there in time to sing one song.
The next meeting/jam will be Wednesday, June 11, 2003, at 6 PM at the same place, Catfish Johnny's in Lake Panasoffkee, Fl.
Thanks to everyone that attended.
Don & Jack
