I just saw a DVD of Porter Wagoner at Church St. Station. He had an all girl band.
The steel (D10) player was Lisa Lynn. I didnt
catch the name of the others, but they were all
good. Steel,fiddle,piano, flat top,
The flat top took a run on Sugarfoot rag and she
can make that Martin talk. |

If I recall correctly, it's Lisa Spears. Her dad Billy was a fiddler who had a hot band in Kansas.
Probably Wanda Vick on guitar (also great fiddle player). Seems like they called the band the Right Combination or something like that.

Thanks Larry. They are good the fiddler you mention
doubled on a blue Strat. Another girl played
a Martin flattop. Porter was probably calling Lisa
by a middle name. |

That was lisa Spears on Steel. Wanda Vick played fiddle, and Nancy Proutt was on drums. Not sure who was the guitar player.
If I am not mistaken Bobbe Seymour put the all girl band "Wild Rose" together and several of the "Right Combination" ladies were in it.

Wild Rose was a butt kicking band,Those ladies could hold their own with anybody,Glad I have a couple of hours of vidio of them.Pam Gadd,Kathy Mac,Pam Perry,Nancy Given,and Wanda Vick[Bobbe's ex]made up Wild Rose,Before that they were Miss Behavin',Those ladies were GREAT together.DYKBC.

I just can't help myself.
This isn't Wild Rose, but they got great (well, free) guitars and amps from Danelectro/Coral.

| I saw Wanda Vick in Bluefield about 20 years ago, front row just below the stage. Wild Rose Band . They were wearing some pretty short skirts. Wanda taped a piece of shelf paper to the front of her steel. It must have been at the end of the roll as the bottom curled up a bit. It was great. I could see her feet on the pedals. What a band! In the 80's an all girl band called Chantilly cut a couple of my songs. They were really good and getting popular but couldn't get along and broke up.
Webb Pierce's daughter was one of the members.

In the mid-60's there was a fabulous all-girl band playing around Denver, Co. Never could find out what their name was or anything else helpful but the steel player was a real Buddy Emmons type player.
Great arrangements and sound. Anybody know WHO they might have been? |
