The old Fender looks like it was drug behind the bus but with Bobby it still sounds great

Does anyone KNOW, WHY he ever started playing the steel guitar using such an unorthodox grip on the bar?

Was it a physical handicap of some sort?

Is that the way he first picked up the bar? and he just kept at it for decades?

Did he not get any formal steel guitar instruction?

Did he just do it to get attention?

If ANYONE REALLY KNOWS, I'd sincerely be interested in learning the "WHY" of it all.
