As I have been mentioning to you over the last couple of months, security vendor Trend Micro has been working on redesigned versions of it's main security programs: Internet Security and Internet Security Pro.
I am happy to announce that Trend Micro's "PC-cillin" 2009 consumer security products are now available for purchase or trial downloads (actually, they've been out for two weeks, but I waited a bit for early bugs to get worked out). I have created a web page with fairly detailed outlines of both of these programs, along with a few paragraphs describing how they work with definitions in-the-cloud and the benefits of this new system.
You can read all about PC-cillin 2009 on Wizcrafts.net, where you will find discount codes, purchase links and free 30 day trial links, for two flavors of the Internet Security suites. I recommend using the free trial first. If you're happy with the results - buy into a 1, 2, or 3 year subscription. Otherwise, uninstall it after the 30 day trial expires.
These new editions have much smaller "footprints" and load up much faster, because they have smaller definition files that load when your computer starts up. The bulk of the malware and dangerous web page definitions are on secure servers referred to as being "in-the-cloud." With a fast Internet connection most PCs can now access these definitions and databases faster than you can kiss a duck.
Previous versions of all anti virus and anti spyware applications have constantly added new definitions to their security programs, onto your computer's hard drive. Most definition databases are measured in megabytes because the contain huge numbers of malware patterns. These definitions must be loaded into memory (RAM) when the program starts, in order to protect you against infected files as they are opened, or downloaded. This is why many security programs slow down the computers they are installed on.
Note, that PC-cillin only runs under Windows XP or Vista. The complete compatibility description is near the bottom of the product description page. _________________ "Wiz" Feinberg, Moderator SGF Computers Forum
