Was backstage at the Opry Sat and got a close up look at Tommy's new Sho-Pro and boy is it beautiful and sounds great. And of course Tommy made it sing. The only thing better than Tommy's musicanship is his personality. Tommy is one great person. Always enjoy getting to spend a few moments with him.

My wife and I were at Show Pro about a month ago. Tommy White was there and Jeff introduced us to him. You are definetly correct on both counts. He is a great steel player and a super nice guy. |

Hi there...so i'm surfing by this thread and see that nice Sho-Pro and, the guru behind it,, doing a double-take for the longest time going.."What the...~? Is that a custom knee lever thats been added that goes behind the leg that operates by curling the leg back ??" Alas, (duh) it's just the seat! |

Had the pleasure of catching up a bit with Tommy last week at Renfro Valley. He was there playing with Steve Waraner. Man!! What a band!!! Got to see Tommy's Show Pro up close and its a work of art. The tone he was getting that nite made me want to cut my guitar in half, not to mention the flawless playing.

I recently bought a bluegrass/country CD because Tommy was playing dobro on it. His dobro playing is as incredible as his steel playing. _________________ Show Pro D10 - amber (8+6), MSA D10 Legend XL Signature - redburst (9+6), Sho-Bud Pro 111 Custom (8+6), Emmons black Push-Pull D10 (8+5), Zum D10 (8x8), Hudson pedal resonator. Never had the pleasure of meeting this fine, talented musician nor to even be in the same room during his presence, however, I do remember his early appearances on the Grand Ole Opry.
They'd gone thro' a number of steel players in succession and then one night there was steel player that kicked off an intro' followed by some really wonderful fills thro-out and a solo turn-around in the middle.
No idea WHO he was, but HIS SOUND was strangely different, so STRONG and yet subtle, so wonderfully beatiful........a really fresh breath of steel guitar. It took me months here on the LEFT COAST, just to find out what his name was.
A beautiful guitar, for sure, and what music he doth make from it. By the way, it looks like, in that photo, that he's wearing those twin amps like stereo headphones. Tell me I'm right; or, wrong. |

Tommy, I bet that choice of two-tone lacquer on your Show-Pro was influenced by your beloved old Crossover. _________________ Jackson Steel Guitars

I had the privelage of seeing & hearing Tommy last Friday on the opry. Next to Connie Smith, he was the best on the stage. And dang it, his amp glitched while he was backing her. But it was still sweet. |

I've got to agree with the rest of the folks here. Tommy is one of the nicest, most hospitable people I've ever met. Not just in music, but in any field. It is without a doubt a great honor to be able to call him friend.
His humble spirit, even though he is one of the greatest musicians in Nashville, is remeniscent of the great John Hughey, who, as we all know, was another incredible musician, and someone who would bend over backward to be nice to someone. Both define the meaning of class!
Great looking Show-Pro steel. Very befitting for such a great musician. |

Ray,
Try to get your hands on the video that Tommy and LLoyd Green did a few years back called "An Evening of E9th".
Exellent playing, and some very interesting conversation between two of the very best pedalists in the world. _________________ John Drury

Back when the St Louis convention was held at the "Ramada Inn Lambert" I was eating breakfast at the restaurant. Reese and his lady were also there with another couple I didn't know were also there.
This little black headed runt of a kid was playing with toys on the floor beside of them. Later on the stage of the show this little guy was there to play.
At this time Tommy was about eleven years old and he was a monster on both necks. Two of the songs he played was "Last Date" (Poppa John's) aragement and "Orange Blossom Special" plus some fat C 6th stuff. I taped the set with a cheap cassett recorder and still have the tape. The tape and his friendship are both precious to me! He is still one of my main men!

Greetings from across the pond. I (correction we all) think Tommy is an ‘Awesome’ Steel Player, it would be wonderful to hear that tape, I don’t doubt Tommy most of all would love to hear it, any chance you can get it on to digital! And share it with his us?
I had a tape not unlike this a number of years back, to me, special in it’s own way, now it’s misplaced and I so regret not having the memory. Whilst you would be sharing, you would always have the original!
Forgive the intrusion on this thread, genuine interest I assure you!
My love of ‘steel’ goes back to my 11th year (now 56yrs) raising the strings on an old guitar and using my watch face as the bar! Basic but it worked!
Best regards and greetings to you all from Scotland! ….Bob Adams |
