I just got this info and link from my neighborhood record store, I'm sure you can (soon) find it elsewhere too. Bear Family just keeps on spoiling us:

Thanks for the heads-up. I have been waiting for a Texas Troubadors instrumental release for a long time.

I couldn't find this CD on Amazon, but they have it at Ernest Tubb Record Shops. I ordered it immediately.

The TT had to be the best bar band ever.
Doug Sahm, for the few here that don't know, was also a steeler. Too bad there is so little examples of his playing.

Mr. Whitfield,

Doug Sahm was in the Texas Tornados. This thread is about the Texas Troubadors, who were Ernest Tubb's backup band.

I wouldn't want you ordering this CD thinking it's the Texas Tornados.

Edit: I see by your emoticons in your earlier post that you already discovered this. Sorry.

Just picked up my copy; what a great release!!! I hadn't heard Big E's early version of Danny Boy before and the unreleased cuts of Greensleaves and Highland Swing are nothing short of mindblowing ( no knee levers, mind you Cool and what a tone!!!!! ) Lots of great pictures of Buddy E, C and Bobby Garrett and a really nice booklet full of detailed information. Goes to top 3 of steel guitar cd's of the year, actually make that Top 1. Very Happy

I am kind of surprised that this thread is not receiving much discussion. Maybe there were not as many people searching for a Texas Troubadors CD as I would have thought there were.

I do think more people would notice this thread if it were moved to the "MUSIC" section of the forum. That is where I would look for it, if I were looking for something like this. What do you think, b0b?

I just got back from Nashville last week. I had the opportunity to jam with Leon Rhodes and he is just as good as he ever was. Jack Greene stopped by and sang with us. I had the pleasure of doing a recording session with Leon last year and he is an amazing guitar player. Still coming up with new licks. I got to play Drivin' Nails and do some twin with him on that session. What a treat. Leon told me that Cal Smith is not doing too good health wise.

Anybody know if there's material on this cd that not already on the big ET box-sets from Bear Family?

Yes, three tracks, Highland Swing, Greensleaves and one alt take of Leon's Guitar Boogie. And trust me, Greensleaves alone is worth the whole cd!!
