I am trying to find a rack mount effects unit (reverb & delay) that is compatable with a combo amp. Most of them have built-in preamps that overdrive the combo amp, cause humming and other noises. I am using either a Fender Super Twin or a Bassman 135, niether of which have reverb. I need something that doesn't need programming, basically, a Boss RV-3 in a rack. Do any of you folks have any suggestions?
Thank You, Marty Nemanick

Marty I use a TC Electronics M300 which does a great job - it is a twin engined job with reverbs and delays, plus a few other things as well....very easy to setup and you can programme presets.

Although the TC M-300 is a great sounding unit, it will not have the desired effects with the mentioned amps because of a lack of effects loops. The unit has no input nor output level adjustments, therefore you will get a lot of white noise when used with these amps. The unit also requires a great deal of adjustments and has many features.

May I suggest the Lexicon MPX 100 or MPX 110, the Peavey Delta-fex, and Alesis micro-verb. They are all good rack units and all are single space, and very affordable.

I used to use an old Lexicon MPX-100 and it was very nice and easy to program. It had level controls for both the Input and the Output, so it would work well either in an f/x loop, or in front of a combo amp.

Marty, further to what David suggests - I actually run the M300 into the back of my Revelation Preamp, and then out to the power amp in on the back of my NV1000 so I'm not going directly from the effects unit to the amp. It might not be ideal for that application but sure works great the way I have it set up. I do like the way you can adjust it on the fly if you have to.

Huey's setup was where he came out of the Rev's outputs into the Lexicon and then from that unit to the power amps. He didn't use the preamp's effects loop.

Brad Sarno says that the only downside to that setup is that the preamp's entire signal gets digitized when going through the Lexicon (or any other last-in-chain digital effects unit). However, he also said that the difference is practically unnoticeable except to the most discerning user.
