I bought this from Shot Jackson's widow Donna and do have the reciept the ser# is 6298 looks like maybe it has a horseshoe pickup maybe put in later the guitar sounds great tone and volume controls work good and it has a good hard black case which looks and fits fine and I am sure it has to be original the keys are all nice enclosed and have a stamped E on the back the inside of the plush case has a E molded inside top. I need to know how much to ask for this if I sell it Donna did assure me that it was one of his personel collection lap steels so I beleive that to be fact she is a fine lady you can mail me at billrt@centurytel.net I put that on here because sometimes after I changed my email I dont get my mail so if you can help let me know.
Thanks,
Bill

So sorry if I done something wrong here must have not had any comments, I wish I would get some input on this steel. The story about it belonging to Shot Jackson is true I just aquired it from Donna in St. Louis Aug. 30th at her booth and she told me the story my wife and a friend was with me when I bought it. If I knew how I would post a photo that might help, but the only way I know how to send a picture is to an individual's email, thanks so much if someone can help me in anyway, oh yes I did have one person who tried to help all he could and told me to keep trying someone knew out in the wonderful world of steel guitar.
Thanks

Bill. I have a 1940 Epiphone Electar Zephyr. it looks just like yours, except mine does not have the horseshoe magnet. it looks more like the one in the print diagram. my serial number is #7478. that date is 1940. there is a site for dating Epiphone guitars.
I lost the link when I changed computers and it was a while ago. there may be a link on Brads Page of Steel.
google Epiphone dating guitars maybe.
maybe leave the 'dating' part out. that could open a can of google worms.
I also have an Epiphone Century. #2768 and that dates it as 1939.
you seem to have a lot of information. can I help any more?

A friend at work just bought a 1937 Electar in pretty tough shape. Needs tuners and pu, but seems to work. I asked him how sounds as is, he said "close your eyes and think of Hank Williams", enough said.

Mr Taft,

If you do get the price thing figured out and do decide to sell - are you going to give us forum guys a shot at it by posting in the "instruments" section? Or is this already spoken for in some way?

I do not want to misrepresent this guitar in any way so taking some time to find out about it or as much as I can, and then I will price it and put it on the forum, unless a friend come to the house to jam and bought it but unlikely!!!!!! Thanks for asking and there is a strong chance like my wife that it might have to make an exit.
Thanks
