Hey everybody......... Don't know if anyone can help me or not, but I am trying to find out where an old lead guitar player is that was in acouple of groups I was in back in the 60's and 70's in the North west. His name is Dave Karr. He was a big guy, like 6'2 or 3 dark black hair and wore glasses. One heck of a player [guitar] loved to play country, soft pop, and jazz. He found an old S10 steel in a pawn shop, bought it recoditioned it himself and started playing it. He also worked in computer businness. Moved to silicon valley for awhile, and then I heared he had moved back to the Northwest. We played at.... the Player's Club in Renton, Wa, Eagle's in Auburn,Wa, Riverside Inn Tukwilla,Wa, and the Casino in Everret, Wa Don't know if anybody out there knows of his where abouts or even heared of him. "Hope So" Thanks ......... Jack<>< |

Is he the one that introduced me to my second wife while living up in/near Federal Way, Wash.?
Did he play a smooth, silky Gretch guitar with Bigsby vibrato?
Did his first wife play bass and sing occasionally and was last known to be living in Camas, Wash.?
Did he play flawless Chet Atkins style on that Gretch?
Did he have an olde Lincoln MK-V?
Did he ride a Harley?
Was he hurt rather severally, when a woman pulled out in front of him, tossing him over the handlebars?
Did he at one time work for IBM and travel around the world to inspect or whatever, some of their installations onboard ships and at ground sites too?
Did he work in Irvine, Calif. for awhile?
Did he have a sister living in Medford, Oregon?
Did he play Bill Stafford's (Gulfport, Miss.) famous SAW HORSE steel guitar at one of the Texas or Calif. steel shows?
Did he ultimately move to Las Vagas, Nevada?
Was his wife's name Barbara? Was she a redhead?
Is he the one that was featured about a year back on the Jerry Byrd Fan Club on "About Ray"?
-----------------------------------------------------
I just wanted to be sure we're talking about the same wonderful individual........and not be responsible for spreading any kind of wrongful info'.
That DAVID KARR, sadly to say, died, in Las Vegas, several years ago, shortly after moving there with his beloved bride Barbara.
I've NEVER known anyone that was a more wonderful person. He knew every Jerry Byrd tune and would request me to play this one or that one, and he knew each and every chord and/or break in every song.
His rhythm playing with those soft jazz chords made him a rare exception to the general term "guitar player'.
I miss David very much. Such a terrible loss. |

His first wife tho was a blond and a little older then Dave. She sang with the group once in awhile. I can't remember her name, but they did devorice and he remarried a gal named Millie. A lot of simalarities Ray........ Maybe is him. But would hate to think he's gone........ He was younger then me, and I am 74. But thats life ........ Thanks again Ray. Maybe you would know Mike Johns.... He played steel with us at the eagles in Auburn. Also Whippy Jenkins. He was our steel player at the casino in Everret. Thanks again...... Jack<>< |

|
|
My DAVID KARR and yours, are one in the same.
His wife up in Renton and later Camas, WA., was indeed older than him by a number of years and was a blond, at least when I saw here. I'm sorry I can't recall her name. That's always been a fault of mine.
A wife name "MILLIE' does NOT sound accurate. He always used to chide about his 'beautiful little RED HEAD......his BARBIE DOLL'.
I'm confident this is the SAME PERSON. He'd also taken up steel on his own........ Even had a different tuning than most.
His loss, is still felt.
I know not any of the names you've mentioned.
Hope the info' is a help to you. |

Ray..... I am sad to have to hear about the death of Dave. He is the same Dave. Elaine was his wifes name, (blond) and she sang with us once in awhile. was not really that good, but sang good harmony. I remember now, that dave talked about his ex wife that he was paying child suport to. He had a daughter. Don't know her name. When we were plying at the Player's Tavern in Renton, Wa which was owend by Ray and Millie,is when he started seeing Millie. Her and Ray were on the outs, and getting devoriced. So Dave and Millie got together and later married. She is the last wife I knew he had. I was known for my singing with the groups, as sounding like Ray Price. so I would sing alot of Prices songs. Dave's guitar playing on those songs just blew me away. Ray Price should have had him as his lead guitar, instead of who he had He found that little S10 steel in a pawn shop, which had been painted an awful green color. so he striped it down, cleand it up, reconditioned it and found the most good looking blond birds-eye maple body under all that ugly green. Thats when he started to learn to play steel. I am so glad to hear that he went so far with it. I loved Jerry Byrd stuff myself. When I played lap steel as a kid Jerry was one of my idals, along with "Speedy". I can't believe Dave is gone. My wife and I will miss him. He was a great friend, and a GREAT guitarist. There was no one I would rather have playing when I sang. Thanks Ray for all the info. Bless Ya.......... Jack<> Ps.. I went by the name of "Jack Martin" when I was playing. Dave called me "The little round mound of sound". |

Elaine was the wife I was trying to think of. She had a rather deep smoker's voice, right?
I might have a tape somewhere that David recorded of his steel playing at home. It was a tuning he made up. But, it sounded okay.
His guitar playing was second to none. |

Hey Ray........ Don't know why it said undeliverable????? Here it is again.... midnhtsp@comcast.net I got your reply, and your AD so will put the picture of our band with Dave in the mail to you. The picture might smell alittle of fuel oil, because we had a flood here a few years ago and I had alot of pictures in boxes in the basement where the furnace was. Lost a lot of stuff that I can never replace. Was able to save some of the stuff from my playing days. My wife and I are always going down to Salem. Sure would like to see that Bigsby and here you play Later Jack<>< _________________ Little Round Mound of Sound. D-10 8/5 ShoBud "The Professional" Pevey NV400. |
