I have been looking at 8 string and 10 string pickups and I can not find dimensions for installing / mounting if you are building your own body. Everyone assumes that you are replacing an existing pickup. I am interested in the George L 8 string and 10 string pickups. I need all the dimensions as I am starting from scratch. Wide mount and narrow mount. Any specs will be a great help. |

The George L's 10-string pickup housing is nominally 3-7/8" long and 1-3/8" wide. These pickups come with seven 'ears' on them to accommodate most installations as well as two #4-40 screws underneath which can be clipped off if necessary. The 'ears', or 'tabs', of these pickups will take up to a #6 screw. This housing is 13/16" in total thickness. One neat thing about these pickups is that ALL the tabs and screws can be clipped off of the housings and the entire pickup glued into position with epoxy. True, you only get one shot at the brass ring, but if you know where you want it, it can be set into a very confined area very easily using this method. I've done this on two occasions with raving results....100% pickup-to-body contact with zero adverse effects....no springs or plates or tubing or the like.

Thanks for the info.
I am building an 8 string and I have only 3.75" avail.
Does George L make an 8 string pickup ? Is it smaller ?

Fred: I don't think George L makes a 8 string p/up but Jerry Wallace at True Tone does. I think he will build to YOUR specs. His contact info is in the Forum links. Andy H. |

As this may be a product that I may offer for sale I am hoping to make this unit so that it can accept as many stock pickups as possible. I need to decide on the size of the cavity hole and mounting supports for the pickup mounting plate. |
