Some bands place the steel guitar on the right side
of the stage, facing out toward the audience while others have them set up on the left side. Once in a blue moon, you'll see one set up right smack in the middle.
WHAT is YOUR PREFERENCE? Do you have an inspirational spot? Is there a location YOU hate?
Do you prefer to face EAST or South or whatever?

I personally don't care, though I prefer not to be right next to the drummer on a small stage; cymbals tend to be right at ear level and I can do without one a foot or two from my head!
One year John Hughey had the tallest "riser" on Vince Gill's stage set (and it was up there); they took to calling it Mt. Hughey!  |

| The best position that I had on stage was right in back of the hot female singer on a short riser at a Always Patsy Cline gig. She wore a see through in the third set with the spot sillouetting her from the front. |

Of course I'd be happy to be there at all, but stage right - it is easier to glance across the stage from this placement, IMO. Also, it's harder to get poked in the eye with a fiddle bow on that side ...
