Yeah, it pretty much is what it is. But why are you worried about changing it in the first place? Look, if that's all you can afford, just get it, play it, and enjoy it!
A few months or years down the road, you can sell it with little or no loss, and buy another. Or, quit again and do something else. |

What Donny said.
I bought a Starter for $550 and sold it for 500; cheap rent to get started.
The Starter was still a better player than I was when I sold it. _________________ Those that say don't know; those that know don't say.--Buddy Emmons |

I agree with Donny. I bought a Carter Starter brand new, played it for a few months and sold it for $550 in 45 min on the forum! They definitely are hot items when they get on the forum for sale. Good Luck!

The Carter Starter CAN be changed. You just need to know how to do it. Don't be scared off by hype that tells you it can't be done. The changer in a Starter will provide you with every change you could ever dream up. I have completely changed two of these guitars around over the past couple years. One was moving the 'E' changes to the right knee instead of the left. The other was changing from the factory-furnished Emmons setup to the Day setup on both the pedals and the KL's.
Don't be fooled by all the hype that you hear. The Starter can be made into whatever you want to make it into. Just keep in mind that you CANNOT buy additional parts for these guitars. You either have to buy them from someone who is parting one out, or have them custom-made. But the fact still remains that the mechanics are provided on this guitar that will allow them to do whatever your heart desires if you know how to change them from their 'restricted' ways as-purchased.
Send a private email my way---prairiewindmusic@gmail.com---and I'll provide you with the info you need to 'convert' these neat little guys into whatever you wish them to be.

Paul, I am a dealer for Magnum and Carter Starter and I believe I can buy parts for either of these brands if I furnish the Company the serial number of the guitar the parts are for. I have purchased Magnum parts and I believe Starter parts can also be purchased in this manner.

I just sold one for $575,00 and sent her everything she needed to plug into an amp and play, she was just starting out and had nothing buy want to, made her a case, picks, bar, tuner cable, dvds,of my playing, and played for her on the phone how to do the pedals. Jerry went by and set it up for her.
The starter wil take you a long way down the road, with 3 pedals and 4 Knees.
as ever

I have a Carter Starter that I will let go for $450.00, plus shipping costs. Three years old. Photos below. Includes:
Hard-shell case
Quick-Start Video
Owners Manual
Tuning Wrench
Leg Bag
Gig Bag
Tuning Chart and literature
Needs cleaning and new set of strings. Am missing allen wrenches that came with it but these can be ordered from the Carter folks for $35.00 including shipping. Also, there is discoloration on top of cabinet as shown in one of the photos below due to attempt to remove masking tape residue.

Lonnie, I hope you can grab this one.
Like Paul said, there are things you can do with the setup, like change knees.
You can also switch A & C crankshafts to make it Day pedals.
I had to scrape to get 500 for mine. 'Just get it' they said. I got it and I was glad. _________________ Those that say don't know; those that know don't say.--Buddy Emmons |
