These things are great! I have one and use it all the time for recording live music. This is NOT your old-school minidisk recorder. This new Hi-MD technology will record CD quality audio, and simply blow away the sound of the classic minidisk. And what I like best is the format that's just a click below CD quality called Hi-SP. You can record over 7 hours on a single disk, and the audio quality is fantastic. Far, far better than what we used to hear from a minidisk. So anyway, these units are killer. I highly recommend them.

Oh yeah, you can also connect them via USB to your computer to transfer the audio into a WAV format. That makes the transfer to CD or iPod much easier.
