Have you noticed that when you read the thread title, somehow you know who the poster is?

Right you are !!! You fooled me at first. Bill's title's are very recognizable, like Andy Rooney's ending's. |

Upon perusing the title of the thread, I was filled with a feeling of trepidation lest something deter me from following my instincts and allowing my inner self to envelope the reasoning behind being open to novel experiences. _________________ Jackson Steel Guitars

"Zeroing in on Vain Attempts"
What happens when I look closely in the mirror and try to imagine myself at 35 again.
Or pretending that I started playing steel at that age. _________________ Those that say don't know; those that know don't say.--Buddy Emmons |

Chris, you have perfected the writing style of the great Mr. Hanky.
Charlie, I love your new avatar. Your hat and glasses made me think of a cool stage name for you... Theloneous Mac... like it?
I can't remember any posts making me laugh so hard!
I don't really think Bill's animadversions are raffish in their impact. Although sometimes, when I read them, I think I should crawl into a corner and lament that I was born in the wrong universe. Many times it seems that Bill simply spouts endless fine-sounding cliches along with unintelligible, scornful dialectic, but I think he is a good person and really wants to help us all. I worked next to a lead singer in a band who could say fancy stuff like Bill (in between every song) and everybody could understand him but me. This went on for over 3 years. Never a clue.
Sometimes I get the impression that some people on the forum think that Bill should try to flag down a flying saucer and take passage for some other solar system, possibly one in which the residents are oblivious to the fact that he uses highfalutin terms like "physicophysiological" and "subjectivoidealistic" to conceal his plans to use our verbal weaknesses to his advantage. In this scheme, a mass of Bill's grandiloquent words will fall upon these space creatures like soft snow, blurring the outlines and covering up all the details. Possibly saving the human race. I've become more than able to see that I would never take a job debating against Bill. Given his uncallous, unpretentious strictures, who would want to? However, should Bill catch a ride to a new galaxie, I will become the new "Jiberishologist Extroidinaire" and reign as the new intergallactic communicator of the forum. Am I making myself perfectly clear? Is this thing on? |

That brings to mind a recent word Donna Dodd coined, fo'bating (drawing fo'bros into debates), altho I would spell it fo'baiting, even if harmless.
Thelonious Mac would do nicely. Thanks, Danny.
I spent afternoons wondering how Monk could play so... unadulterately.

Oftentimes, deep in somnolent reverie and fantasia, I've dared to perceive myself in Mssr. Hankey's position vis a' vis his numerous encounters with those of captious judgment, engaging in my own bloviated intercourse with said obstreperous detractors of my perceived verbosity to excess, intelligible or unintelligible, wherein I opine that those adversarial constituents of this esteemed forum might do well to practice coprophagia, with the attendant (and well anticipated) necrosis of tissues, said organs being vital as well as not.
This necrosis rendering the cessation of their much-desired though little appreciated mortality on our glorious orb, and with the delivery of their spiritual (i.e. non-physical) selves into the subterranean, torturous domain of that creature popularly referred to amongst the adherants of Judaeo-Christianity as Lucifer, Beelzebub, et al., I would rejoice, exhorting my opponents thusly: "Descend, oh ye practitioners of fellatious homoeroticism and maternal carnality, into your eternal, damnable existence of monosyllabism without the benefit of either dictionary, thesaurus, or syntactical/grammatical enlightenment!"
Phew! That's when I woke up! _________________ My rig: Infinity and Telonics.
Son, we live in a world with walls, and those walls have to be guarded by men with steel guitars. Who's gonna do it? You? You, Lt. Weinberg? |

As I was reading Herb's dream sequence, I drifted into an old Peanuts cartoon, with an adult speaking, "Mwa mwa mwa, mwa mwa mwa; mwa mwa mwa, mwa". |

Herb... Before I surrender to your power of words. Which somehow I completely understood everything you said so (to quote Paul Lennon and John McCartney) "Here I stand, head in hand, turned my face to the wall"...
In the movie "Zoolander" the male models had a "Walkoff" to determine who is the greatest model.
Although You, Chris and I will never be able to compete with Bill's inherent poetry, I think we should have a "Talkoff" to compete for his position on the throne (not that throne! ) should he ever refrain from gracing us with his wonderful verbal projectiles. Here it goes my entry...
Fellow steelers and members of the panel. Let us now join hands, hearts, and minds to focus on what unites rather than divides us. Unsettling as that is, the more infuriating fact is that although I am careless with words, make all sorts of causal interpretations of things without any real justification, have a way of combining disparate ideas that don't seem to hang together, seem to show a sort of pride in my own biases, get into all sorts of apolaustic speculation, and then make no effort to test out my speculations -- and that's just the short list! I am sure you are all fed up with my brain-damaged and prurient behavior. (Note the heroic restraint stopping me from saying that I would love to see pedal steel guitars morph into small, blow up, fuzz-covered transistor radios in which the typical pedal (or non-pedal steel) forumite who dares to build an inclusive, nondiscriminatory movement for social and political change quickly finds himself in a heap of verbal trouble. I may have dangled a few participles here, and not trying to brag or anything like that, but a friend of a friend, recently told me my steel guitar playing is almost mediocre on my best days. Boy was my ego up on that day! Thank you all for your support. |

I do get tired of brain-damaged behaviour. But I find prurience fascinating, though I do hope that the opposite gender is somehow involved. _________________ Amor vincit omnia |
