| This is a way hard to find LP of various Hawaiian artists from the 50s/60s with some great steel on it, especially from Gabby Pahinui that is nye on impossible to find elsewhere. |

A Google search for "Duke Kahanomoku's Favorites" turned up this link on the Hall of Records blog. No idea how good it is, so use caution.

Thanx, Brad, I didn't have time to get that link up. I asked Michael (who owns that very LP) for a copy on his blog, but doubt I'll hear from him.
This LP is a sure bet. The players on it are top shelf and the songs are great. The one cut I've heard by Pops is worth the cost alone, whatever you may pay.
I had the full cut archived but managed to chop off the front end, and have been crying in my beer now for years. |

NO CAUTION REQUIRED ON THIS GEM....Just look at the lineup on the album, and for that matter, the songs !
Without a doubt, this is an excellent LP !
The artists featured are: Andy Cummings, Alvin Isaacs Jr., Gabby Pahinui, Charles Miller, Varoa Tiki, Louie Akau and John Lukela. |

Yes, I have quite a clean copy, actually. It's wonderful (as even those who have not heard it have attested to).
I will post a link to the complete LP here in a few days - as Basil would say - for educational purposes only. That will be a limited time only link.
On the Duke LP, most of the steel was by Barney with vocals by Gabby and others, but Gabby plays steel on a scant few cuts. If you must have your own vinyl copy, it was first issued as "In Hawaii The Story Starts." It was reissued under the new title to capitalize on Duke Kahanamoku's popularity. Duke probably had no idea what went on the record. 
I have been remiss on fulfilling my last promise (Barney Isaacs' Heavenly Islands) but only because my PC was on the fritz. I will get around to both this weekend.

Actually, CC, Duke was kinda old at this point, just a couple of years before he passed, so I doubt he was pulling much of anything. And these day's, you would be hard pressed to find anyone in LA who knows who The Duke is, sadly.
I'd like to hear that song tho! I think I heard it once.

By the way you can get the CD from Cord International
I appreciate your kind offer Garry, but I actually have the C.D. It is a regular favorite of mine. My wife and I have listened to it alot on Saturday mornings, while we eat one of our favorite breakfast - Hawaiian French Toast.
All of you need to be turned on to Hawaiian French Toast made by purchasing Hawaiian Sweet Bread made by King's Bakery. It will be in your local food market. It is actually Portuguese sweet bread. Cut it an inch thick and dip in egg batter then sprinkle lightly with cinnamon. The best French toast you will ever have. Believe me!! My advice will cost you nothing. Think of it.
