| I started with my mother's Hawaiian guitar and a bar that she said was monel. That bar retained a glass-smooth finish despite years of use. Every bar I have used since has developed light scratches after very little use. I am not sure if this detracts from the sound, but since I have to get new bars anyway (one for Dobro and one for pedal steel/lap steel) I would like to get monel again, or at least something that does not scratch. |

| J.D., I have a vintage Oahu Monel bullet bar. It is 2.375 long by .375 diameter -- kind of small by today's standards, and too small for my hand. It comes with the bottom half of the original box (can't find the top half). If you're interested send me a PM or email and we'll work out the details (including price, I'm not greedy). - Dave |

| There are bars made of engineering nylon by someone here on the forum, maybe someone will pipe up with the name. I remember reading about them a few months ago. |

Why would nylon be desirable as a material for a steel guitar bar? I would think it too light to give good sustain and not very scratch resistant. |

| Do a search in Pedal Steel, you'll see explanations, testimonials, etc. about these bars. The more you play with one the smoother it gets, apparently. They are quite the thing and a lot of players really love them. |
