I just wanted to say what a great guy Jerry Wallace is to do business with! He made a 12 string pickup for me in January and I finally decided to talk to him about a possible re-wind. We spoke for maybe 30 minutes or so and discussed all the possible ways to go about it, decided on a plan, and I sent it off to him in the mail. I got it back about 10 days later re-wound the way we discussed and now it sounds better than ever. Through all this he refused to take a dime for all the extra work! I liked the pickup a lot before the re-wind but felt that it was (like a lot these days) too hot and had too much mid range. It was, being a 12 string pickup, wound to about 20 K and now shows about 18 K on my meter. Way better tone on the wound strings with no more treble than before. Anybody picky about their tone should seriously consider a single coil True Tone Pickup from Jerry Wallace.

I had a very similar experience with Jerry, except I wanted a MUCH brighter sound. He rewound mine from 18k to 12k and I love it! The wound strings now have that twang I require and let me tell you, this steel cuts like a laser!

I've sung the praises of Jerry's Truetones for YEARS !!....If not the best , surely one of the best single coil pickups out there or for that matter , One of the best pickups out there PERIOD !!....Can't decide whether to go with one strength or the other, have Jerry throw a coil tap in there for ya .....I like to have a more full sounding single coil tone, but like to switch in a nice trebley, bright , airy tone too ....Both tones have their own place ....Jim

Just curious, maybe someone who winds pickups can answer. From an electronics theory prespective, would it not be better to match the pickup to the impedance of the input device, Pedal/Amp??

It's timely this thread should appear in that Jerry just built and installed his pickup in my Rains. I've only played it perhaps 10 hours in a recording atmosphere, i.e., PODxt direct to 8-track and I must say I am impressed with the tone. Heretofore I was using a 10-1, which I really do like, and before that an E-66. Have used a XLR, 710 and 705 on other guitars, but so far like Jerry's the best. In my environment, don't have to worry about 60 cycle hum. Lloyd Green sure likes Jerry's product, as witnessed by a personal note Jerry shared with me. If you haven't tried one, may I suggest doing so.
