The last few days, I have been thinking about pockets. Pockets of individual notes that can be played pretty much in any order and sound musically more or less correct. I’ve limited my thinking to the key of “E” so I didn’t confuse myself. Here are a few of my thoughts in tab.
Pocket- The pedal or lever indicated may be played or not. The choice is yours.

Hey Dick,
Can I just say that as someone who is learning the beauty and complexity of this wonderful instrument, the tuitional tit-bits that Yourself, Micky Adams and Greg Cutshaw provide are so appreciated and totally invaluable.
These help my progress to the highest degree as not only do you guys provide me with a passage to play but you provide me with a group of notes that I can noodle around with and come up with my own licks and fills. I believe that this is true learning.

| Thanks you so much, Clint, for the kind words. I think the top players must also noodle a bit to come up with all the "New" and inovative licks and runs we hear on CDs. I can't imagine them going into a studio and on someone elses dime, taking to long to come up with something new. But again they are at another level and might do just that. For me, it takes knowing what notes are available on the neck where, to come up with something, then it is a slow process, and is played very slow. It takes a lot of effort on my part, but that is what I love about the instrument. Everything I've posted here is on or below the pedal down position. In the the next couple of "Beginners Notes" I will post a few more of these and then some played at and above the pedal down position. This is material I am learning also and it is great to know others are in the thick of it with me. Good picking mate, here's to ya. Dick Sexton |

| Carrol, thank you for the kind words. I must say though, figuring out these tidbits, playing them over and over to get them right, then posting them, does me a world of good, also as it reinforces my learning processes. Personally, I think we should all thank B0B for allowing us to have the forum where such learning can take place. Any questions or suggestions about any of my posts, just e-mail me.
