Topic: Individually adjustable nut set. How does the Search work? |

| I don't understand how to use the Search thing. Please help. I am interested in looking at some of the ideas that have been posted about nuts that are hight adjustable for each string individually for the sake of minimizing buzz at the first few frets. I have a friend who is a machinist and he is an expert at it. He works on rockets. Really. Anyway, he is currently making a keyless tuning system for a lap steel I am making and I've been thinking of having him make an adjustable nut set for me also. I remember there were some very good ideas about this with some great drawings done by one of our forum members a while ago. Help please. Thanks so much, Don |

Don:
1. Click on search
2. Type in the following phrase in the upper right hand corner: Nut rollers
3. Choose either "posts" or "Topics" in the lower left hand corner.
4. Click on "search" at the bottom.

Make sure you select 'Search for all terms' if your use 'Nut Rollers' as your strategy.

| Don, Carl has written some great stuff on another thread about this very issue. He seems to have had no luck with having rollers machined to fit his string gauges, and to level the tops of them. Yet, I wonder about your particular case. You say your friend is making you a keyless head. Why do you feel that you need rollers at all on a lap steel? If you have a set of strings that you always use, it would seem to me that it would be relatively easy to machine a rollerless nut to work. |

| Hi John, I didn't say anything about roller nuts. I just said I wanted an individually, height adjustable nut set. You're right, roller nuts are unnecessary for a keyless lap steel or any lap steel I guess. Don |

Sorry I misunderstood!. All you need to do is cut the slot depths correctly then, I would think. At least that's all if you're sticking with the same string gauges. The fewer moving parts, the better for tone and sustain.
