For all that aren't on Bobbe's newsletter, here's today's post:
******************************************
Hello fellow players,

What Mike Cass said was correct. What Fred Shannon said was correct also, but the aluminum strips, when they blew up acted like 25 knives.

Every finger was splintered. What they had to do to fix it was put pins, small needles in the fingers to hold the pieces together until they can fuse. All the joints are shattered on all but the ring finger which is gone.

I’m in very little pain. The hand just generally feels warm. It will take three months for the pieces to fuse.

I don’t know about slants and reverses, but I obviously will be playing again. I feel that with the right kind of practicing, I should regain everything I lost.

Steel Guitar Nashville is open for business and I will be in again on Monday.

I want to thank Mike Cass and everybody for taking care of me.

Here are the last three videos we shot before the accident.

They should have the third one posted by the time you get this so just follow the link below to my YouTube page.

Your buddy,
Bobbe

I think we should consider Bobbe injured in the line of duty - making and repairing and customizing great steel guitars. He's a hero. Smile

Hi Bobbe, Glad to hear that you will be able to play again. Two years ago, I almost severed my left hand, and the doctors were able to save it for me. It took a while, but I am able to play again. Hang in there, I know that you will overcome this. Shouldn't you receive some sort of medal for being wounded in the line of duty ? See you down the road, Jody.

Bobbe, my guess is you should stay away from the alunimun and stay behind the steel. Get well my friend. Jimmie Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy

Glad you're OK, Bobbe. Practice will get you back to where you were. I was out of professional music 42 years (making a living) and went back to steelin' in 2003. I practiced 6 hours daily for two years. I got it all back except manual dexterity, so I didn't get my speed back. Keep that right hand in shape, and I'm sure the left hand will catch up. You know, Big Will, who plays the Gulfport show, has lost his left arm above the elbow and he plays some nice stuff using a prosthesis.

Bobbe,
What a nightmare for a musician, but I'm glad that you're ok and in little pain. I hope you make a speedy recovery and get back to doing what you love.
