I have been having trouble with my NV400's tone the past few weeks. Sometimes it sounds to thin and sometimes it sounds too fat or muddy. Here are my settings now,, Low: -3 Mid: none Shift: 800 Treble: 12 noon and Presence: +3. Can I have some 400 settings to play around with? I want it "clean" but not to "soft" or to "twangy" if this makes since! Thanks everyone,,,,

When you say your mids are "none" do you mean at zero or full counterclockwise?
Try not cutting the mids as much and play with the shift frequency. It makes a huge difference. |

The mids are off. But it is almost like there is not enough treble, but when I turn the treble up, it is to twangy, I really hate peaveys tone controls, there needs to be 5 settings on an amp- 1. Volume 2. Bass 3. Treble 4. Reverb and 5. an Easy button

I have 2 NV400's. One with the Ken Fox Mod and one without. I still use the same settings on both:
Pre: 5
Post: 10
Bass: 9
Mid: -6
Shift: 800
High: Between 6 - 9
Presence" Between 6 - 9
Reverb: 4-1/2 (non mod) 3 (with Mod) |

In the northwest we have been tring the following:
Bass, mid, shift all on full (all the way to the right)
Treble and Presence on +3-+6.
Dial back the bass or treble to your liking.

Does your Nashville have the Peavey mod? (Ken Fox's mod is more than just the EQ voicing if I remember correctly, and that mod would be just as good if not better). If not, get Ken's mod done or have the Peavey mod, makes a big difference. Without the EQ mod, I always thought the tone had too much honk, and if I figured some way to dial that out, it left the amp sounding thin.
If you're not sure if your amp has the mod, post the serial number and Mike Brown would be able to tell you whether it came from the factory with the mod or not. If it came from the factory without the mod, you'd have to take the chassis out and look at a few cap values to be able to tell.
I forget which year they changed over...
And if none of that works sell that Nash and buy an original Session 400.

Hey Bill, My NV400 does have the Peavey Mod. I've heard about a Ken Fox Mod, How much does it cost and how long will he have my amp? But could he still mod my amp since it already has the peavey mod in it? Thanks

Hi Austin,
I'm not sure about the details of Ken's mod, but I'm pretty sure there is a reverb mod that I've heard good things about. Even though you've got the Peavey mod, Ken's mod goes well beyond that.
You'd have to email Ken and get mod details, cost and turnaround time info. I think I saw in a thread somewhere he's on vacation and away from email intermittently right now, so you may have to wait to get an answer. Ken's the man.. can't go wrong.

I have a question about amp's in general. I just got done playing and it sounded wonderful. But last night when I posted this thread, it sounded AWFUL. The settings are the same as last night. Is it my ears messing with me or could it be something in the air (like a CB radio or something). Or is it the house wiring messing with me? I've had this problem it seems like with EVERY amp i get.

I've used this setting for several years now and it works for me and others that have tried it.
Pre: 5
Post: 10
Bass: +12
Mid: +3 To +6
Shift: All The Way Counter Clockwise (Off)
Treble: -2 To +2
Presence: +4 |
