Topic: new peavey steel amp |

Has anyone heard any thing about the new steel amp Peavey is supposed to be comming out with?? Ive heard its supposed to surpass the nashville 112 in performance. I would like to have one and use my 112 for a back-up.

If it is a re-make of the Vegas they have a winner.
The 112 is just a bedroom amp. No good at all on
stage.
Just my opinion !!!

Hopefully it will still have the 12" speaker. It has a tighter sound.  More power would be the answer.  |

I think the 112 has plenty of power...I've never been disappointed. All my friends that have them gig with them all of the time. Guess you can always buy another.
I'll admit that sometimes you might have to run it into a PA, but it is better than luggin' around the ol' Session 500 or 400 for the extra power.
I'm short & can't afford to lose any inches by getting my spine crunched down from all the extra weight of one of those monsters. I'll gladly lug the 112 around & leave my big Peaveys at home.
You know, Jimmy Dickens used to be really tall until he started carrying around heavy amplifiers!!!

| I hope Mile Brown sees this soon. I ordered a new Nashville 112 Wed last week. After never reading any more since a post wae posted a few months ago about a new Steel Amp coming from Peavey I couldn"t wait any longer. I also ordered a 1501-4 basket and neo magnet last October and haven't received them yet for my SteelKing. My SteelKing is to hard to handle since knee surgery. If there is a new amp coming out soon,I will order it instead of the Nashville 112. I hope Mr Brown will read this and clear up this rumor once and for all. Thankyou Jim |

I don't think its a rumour. I have seen reference to this amp from a reputable source.

Jeez, I used my 112 at a big outdoor festival on Saturday night.....worked fine for me.  I actually find it more efficient on larger stages because you don't have the drums up your butt.

Michael, I guess the 112 would be ok if you had a soundman all the time. I think the 112 die's out at about 20 feet. Now the Evans or Vegas just starts cooking at that distance.

I'm getting the feeling that a lot of you guys give precedence to volume over tone. I cannot sit in front of my 112 on a live gig, and not get enough volume to hurt me, if I wish. Anything available over that is a waste, anyway. What difference if one hurts you on 6 and the other hurts you on 3? Either way, there's enough gain.
I have, over the years, had a 400, 500, now a 112. Also various Fender amps. Nothing I've ever played through has had a better tone than the 112 I'm using right now, my opinion. Most Peavey's I've played through have a mid range, boxy honk that's just there no matter what you do with the settings. The 112 doesn't have that. IF Peavey can get that tone out an amp with more power, I might consider it. But tone is most important, to me.

I used my 112 on an out door stage two weeks ago, and it came through just fine.I also have a Stereo Steel, Vegas 400, and an Evans, but I still prefer the 112 over them. Larry

The 112 works for me volume-wise because it's always mic'ed. So I don't have to worry about it filling up a room on its own steam. Tone-wise I'm not as big of fan. No matter what I do, there's still a bit of mid-range honk there. I can't dial it out. (I am switching to a Twin Custom 15 for live stuff.) But if 80 watts is not enough power for a stage monitor, then something's wrong with the band dynamic.
If Peavey makes another steel amp, I hope they get rid of the shift knob and just have treble, middle and bass like a Fender. Why have all those frequencies if everyone just dials them out anyway? At all the steel shows, the 112 is invariably set with the mids 1-3 and the shift a little shy of 800. This should tell Peavey something. Peavey steel amps do not have to be equipped with so much "honk" potential.

Yes, we are in the R&D stages of a new steel guitar amplifier. Given the progress that we have made with speaker technology, effects and overall amplifier design in general, there will be a new product on the market. No time table at this time though. Thanks for using Peavey products.

I hope this means lighter amps! Mr Douchette what do you think of the Nash 1000? I am curious if the 15 makes a difference in tone at lower volumes.

I recently used a Nashville 1000 on a steel show and it had more bottom end than the 112, due to the 15. It also, obviously, had more headroom and overall presence. But tonally, it was very much like the 112. Both the 112 and 1000 have the same control panel, I do believe. I liked it a bit more than the 112, presumably due to me being used to the 15" in my Session.
