peavey pro fex 2

I have a profex 2. it use to turn on instantly,now it lights up and gives a recive signal but i get no sound for about 3 min. can any one help?

If you have a cache card with your user programs on it, you could try a "factory reset" and see if that helps. You will have to reload your user programs after doing a factory reset.

To Reinitialize the unit (factory reset)

1. Uplug the power supply
2. While pressing both the Play and Global buttons, power up the unit by plugging the power supply in.

Seen this over and over. Battery leakage. Requires circuit board removal, removal of bad parts, board cleaning and possible trace repairs.

Mine had the battery mod done about three years ago, so it won't be battery leakage.

The two mute transistors often suffer damage as a result of battery damage, even some time after the battery acid has been cleaned up. That's the reason Peavey will not warranty any repairs on units that have had leakage,

There is also a 1 meg and 10K resistor that can develop a trace connection between them as a result of leakage even after it has been cleaned up.

If it had leakage at the time that could result in damage later on.

This is typical of unit that have had leakage at some time. Usually I pull the board and scrub it on both side with baking soda and water and then I rinse it off, replace any affected components (usually a 10K and a 1 meg resistor, minimum). Also look for plated thru holes that have had acid thru them and repair as needed.

Not sure if we're talking about the same thing. My power supply that plugs into the wall is not getting any power on the side that plugs into my effects unit. It say 16 vac 1.1 amp on it. This is the 2nd power supply I have went thru on this unit. The last one quit the same way, I got this new one and my unit worked great for the last couple years. Now, this one is bad also.

the power supply is 16AC. Make sure your VOLT METER setting is for AC when testing!! I have never seen one go bad.
Here is a link to where you can buy one cheap. You will have to cut off your existing cord and screw down the 2 wires.

If this unit acts strange it is best to do a factory reset. Simply hold down the PLAY & GLOBAL buttons as you are plugging in the power supply.
I have seen this fix em all.
The end problem is usually the back up battery is dead, and it is in "stupid mode"
The battery is about 5-10 bucks and can be installed by any electronics guy that can desolder the bad one and solder in a new one. There are a lot of screws to remove because the battery is soldered to the main bd.
I can do it in about 30 min, but I have done it many times as a svc tech.
