I had a BLAST on the MNJ Saturday night. The staff band (Jimmy Capps, Hoot Hester, Billy Linneman, Cotton Payne, Tim Atwood, Tommy White, and Mark Casstevens) sounded awesome. Jan Howard was absolute pure class, as always.
If you didn't get to listen to the show, you REALLY missed something. Tommy was playing an old Sho Bud Permanent. KILLER tone and KILLER chops from one of the best in the business today.
I was thrilled to have Bobbe Seymour playing with me on my part of the show that night. He brought along a '51 Bigsby D8
Speaking as a musician AND a fan, and in retort to the "sour grapes" comment in another post, ANYTIME you get the opportunity to play with or just listen to this guy, DO IT. Not only is he a legend, he's one hell of a player! He has forgotten more than most of us green-peas will ever know about the instrument.
I was in kind of a transcendental state, between Bobbe and that Bigsby, Cotton Payne, Billy Linneman, and just the fact of where we were, that I don't even know if I was in tune or not. I think I even remember picking up the b*njo for a song....

Hey Scott,
I tried to stay up and catch it, but alas, being the old man I am, I had to go on to bed. I really wanted to hear Bobbe and the guys. Hope I can catch you guys again.
Thanks to everyone for taking Bobbe along, I hear he is really having trouble getting to play anywhere!! Maybe with a little more practice and time, he might get a few gigs or sessions.
Maybe it would help if he opened a steel guitar dealership somewhere near Nashville or something.

Not to steel Bobbe's thunder, but as I told you in France last year, I've forgotten MORE than I ever knew about the instrument! _________________ My rig: Infinity and Telonics.
Son, we live in a world with walls, and those walls have to be guarded by men with steel guitars. Who's gonna do it? You? You, Lt. Weinberg? |

We'll get the wonderful Jan Howard to sing, (as per Scott's suggestion). Boy, THIS WILL BE A FUN SHOW! As always!
By the way, Scott is a steel player also and a total killer Tele player!
