I just found this gem of Capitol Records California Country album...
Bobby was co-writer of the Tammy W. hit with Paycheck
It sounds to me like Ralph Mooney all over the record (p-l-e-a-s-e correct me if I'm wrong, but I doubt I am) 
and can anyone tell me the guitar player? |

Dave, I have the same LP and love the thing. That's ol' Ralph for sure but unfortunately in those days they didn't put musician credits on the album covers. It was probably cut at the Capitol Records building in Hollywood and might have been any one of these guys. Al Bruno, Jerry Cole, James Burton, Jimmy Bryant, or Glen Campbell. One of my favorite cuts on the album is "Cupid's Last Arrow"......JH in Va.

| Bobby said that Moon was the greatest country steel guitar player in the world. It was him for sure. Bobby had a pretty big hit with Apt No Nine before Tammy covered it. I enjoyed picking and jamming a bit with Bobby, and was saddened to learn that he has passed away. |

| Man, that is a great album and Mooney made it great. My favorite is "One More Time Around". Bobby recorded another fine album with Mooney a few years later on Capitol titled "This Song Is For You". Hopefully, they'll both be re-released by someone soon. |

He also did an lp the year after Apt. #9 called "An Old Love Never Dies" (1968).
My favorite cut on that one is "Odds and Ends (Bits and Pieces)"

| Mooney listed those two Bobby Austin albums as part of his discography many years ago, I don't have the article, but someone who has long passed on listed the LPs for me. |

I figured it had to be Moon- the playing is so identifiably "Mooney-esque".
but I sure would like to know which of those studio guitar aces listed above played on it...
from the bends I'd think Burton, but the phrasing is so off-the-wall I just dunno... |

I'd say Burton, Jerry Cole just about never got country sessions at Capitol, Roy Nichols was not a session player beyond Bonnie Owens, Haggard and Wynn (when he was with Wynn's band only), and Al Bruno didn't do many big sessions at Capitol until 1970 or so, that's after Buck starting using him at his own studio. (Although I think he rhythm played on Ralph's 1968 album with Burton)
I'd put my money on Glen Campbell and James Burton as the main guys, Jimmy Bryant seems a long shot as he burned his bridges at Capitol back in '56. |
