Aloha everyone, it's been awhile since I posted here so I thought I'd provide an update for those interested in the lap steel CD project that's previewed on my MySpace Music page and on HSGA's website.
Well, it's finally finished and the response has been great so far! I've posted more info in the "Event Announcements" section, please go have a look if you have a minute. Mahalo!

That all sounded quite nice, Mike, congratulations!
What were you using for a steel?
Especially liked 'South Of Honolulu'.
Hope to hear more.

Also liked the myspace friends you have in the old timey jazzies, the Midnight Serenaders, with Henry Bogdan on the National.

Thanks, guys! Ron, I used three different steels on the project, all of which are represented in the MySpace songs. "South of Honolulu" was played on my Tradewind seven-string "frypan" in F#9 tuning (F#-A#-C#-E-G#-C#-E low-high). The other two steels were a bakelite Bronson Model 52 (Rick BD6) tuned C#m and a Rickenbacker DC16 tuned B11/E13. Thanks for giving them a listen!

Cool Good news, Mike...dug your tunes on the HSGA sound page...wondered how your project was going. I'll be wanting a copy, for sure.

What version of E13 do you have on the DC16?

Steve, on the DC16's front neck I've been using B-D-E-G#-B-C#-E-G# low-high. I didn't actually use that neck or tuning on this project and I'm thinking of replacing it with an extended version of the F#9 tuning that's on my "frypan", so I can play the whole album on one guitar. Or, if I can't decide on how to extend that tuning (low C#? high G#?) I will probably just use the 7-string F#9 tuning on it (F#-A#-C#-E-G#-C#-E low-high).

Hi Mike, we met years ago at Seymour's place one rainy afternoon. Beautiful tone and feel on all the cuts. THe engineering is also quite good. Nice work!

Hi Andy, yes, I do remember meeting you at Bobbe's. I bought your great steel guitar book a few years ago also. Thanks for the kind words, and actually I've remixed and mastered the CD and it sounds even better than the tracks on MySpace or the HSGA website. Take care, I hope to see you again down the line!

Mike,

It was really enjoyable listening on all the songs
with a good variety.

I would like to invite you to come to the Winchester Aloha International Steel Guitar convention and the Joliet HSGA Steel Guitar convention where others could hear and enjoy your playing.

Are you a member of both or either one of these clubs?

Aloha, Smile
Don

Aloha Don,
I am a member of the HSGA, in fact I've had a couple of my tunes uploaded on their website http://www.hsga.org/new_design/MikeFried.htm for awhile. I'm not sure whether I'll be able to make it to Joliet this year, although I'd like to if I can (I've been wanting to go for a few years but haven't made it yet Oh Well ). Hopefully I'll be able to make a decision on this year soon...
Mahalo,
Mike

Yes, I guess a direct link here would be useful, wouldn't it Very Happy ...

www.mdfsounds.com/sohcd/soh_order is the direct link to the ordering page.

www.mdfsounds.com/sohcd has general info on the CD, and also links to the ordering page.
Thanks for the heads-up, Howard!

Todd, thanks for the kind words. As for live gigs, I'm not doing any Hawaiian shows as of yet, the dates on my MySpace page are actually country pedal steel gigs on Lower Broad downtown. It is a good band, though, and it'd be great to see you if you're in town!

Thanks for the link, Mike, paypal sent. I've been waiting for this since you posted 'Nuages' here last year. Some of the most beautiful steel I've ever heard.
