Can you get cleaner effects with a higher wattage power amp, ie 600w vs 200w?
Are your preamp controls more responsive with a higher wattage?

| IMHO, if your sound is bad with 200 watts, an extra 400 probably ain't gonna help. Normally, amplifiers (except for old tube amps) have a very good signal-to-noise ratio. While rack EFX can be quite good, small EFX units are often made with cheap components and simple circuitry to keep costs down. Clean sounds start with the first thing in the signal chain. If that's good, and all the subsequent devices are good, your final sound will usually be good - but many players make the mistake of hooking box after box together, and then wondering why things get "foggy" down the line. The more devices (and cords, and connections and wall-warts) you have in the chain, the bigger the chances for problems. |

I have found with the guitar that the lower wattage amps, (25 to 30 watts rms), generally sound better, Standel, Delta Blues, etc., comes to mind.
I've heard Paul Yandell say several times over on the Chetboard that good sound is not in the monster wattages. However, being new to the steel, I don't know if this holds true with the pedal steel guitar.
I sure would be interested in hearing more on this from some knowledgeable folks. Bill duncan

| I have found useing the Number two input on an older amp helps reduce noise quit a bit.All those Tubefexes and profexs hiss and hum somewhat.After a while, you just get used to it, and never here it when the band is cranked up.Single pole pickups contribute alot to the noise, but sound good. |

I guess my question is will any effect sound cleaner with a more powerful power amp vs a less powerful one, forget the quality of any individual effect unit, it is about the power amp and how it uses the signal it receives.
