In another forum, I came accross Dave's post and saw his mention of being a steel player for decades now, and that he has a business making microphones.
So, I thot it prudent to toss him and his craft into the SGF ring to give a steelin' bro some props.
He's gotten at least one mention here on the SGF, by Skip Edwards, so he's not totally new, but here's some links to check out - www.myspace.com/davepearlman www.pearlmanmicrophones.com and his Email is - rtndrascal@aol.com

" Dave Pearlman ", is a great steel picker.I've played some fun gigs with him. He's another one of them West Coast pickers like " Ron Epperson " who really don't know how good they are and have no ego with that talent. Leo J.Eiffert,Jr.

Inetresting, LJ, and glad to hear it. Seems Dave and I are about the same age, early fifties, and he sure has been at it, and well, for quite some time. Wish I would have caught him when he was here on Oahu at gigs like the famed Crater Fest's inside Diamond Head long ago.

David is a great steeler for sure. I met him through Steve Silver when I was at the old Swizzle Stik in Huntington Beach, Ca. Steve had him fill in for him one night and he went ahead and used Steve's ZB and played it just like it was his own guitar. He's also done some major recording dates and has held down the steel guitar chair for acts like Dan Fogleberg and Hoyt Axton. I hope he becomes a part of this forum as he's got a lot to contribute........JH in Va.

The Swizzle Stik!
Huntington Beach!
Steel guitar!

I remember numerous times standing in the alley at the side door to The Golden Bear in HB with Bobby Black seated just inside and getting my first fill of steel up close while the Ol' Commander did his thang.
Thanx, Bobby!

I'm in awe of him.

Dave is one of my oldest friends...we've known each other for over 30 years. He's quite the steel player, too. He's been a studio owner for years and years and I've been lucky enough to do countless sessions with him, and have countless laughs along the way.

His mics are awesome. Anybody who wants a vintage megabuck mic without spending megabucks needs to check them out.

I had no idea he was a steel player...I have heard nothing but awesome things about his mics--if I didn't already own a real 47 I would no doubt own one of his (may still yet Smile)...

I also think Dallas Upton of Vintech Audio that builds killer Neve based preamps and eqs is a tele/steel player.... I do own some of his stuff and I know Randy Beavers does, too...

Dave is a great player,I did a few gigs with him when I lived in L.A.One day I got a call from Brad Felton he wanted to know what I said to Juice Newton's producer to piss him off?I told him that I didn't know what he was talking about and to give me the guy's phone number.I called this guy up and asked him what his problem was and he went into a little rave,I cut him off and asked him if he thought that I was Dave Pearlman? to which he replied "Sorry Man,You're Names Sound A like",I always liked Dave a whole bunch after That. Dave was one of the first steel players I met along with Red,J.D,Sneaky and Skip when I first got to L.A. in the early 70s. He always played a Sho-Bud Pro-1 w/4+4 and played just about all the E9 you could stand and reminded me of Tom Brumley.Once he was describing his approach to E9 and he said it was real important to be able to get around on it without pedals and if you could do that,it would give a whole other dimension to your mental map of the tuning. That always stuck with me. The mics he's building nowadays are second to none if you like the sound of 50s-60s large diaphragm condenser tube mics. Many pro studos around the world are using Dave's mics.

I heard Dave play with Fogelberg/Fools Gold on the radio in 1976 and he very much impressed me. I believe it was The King Biscuit Flower Hour. Thanks for the info.

Dave once told me of an incident while he was on the road with Hoyt Axton. It seems he awoke in the middle of the night somewhere along the interstate in the tour bus. He went up front and Hoyt was blind drunk and driving the bus about 90mph. I think he might have quit the band after that. I know it would've scared the "dookey" outa me...JH in Va.

Hey Jerry," Hoyt Axton " couldn't help himself with Della & the Dealer. But Dave Pearlman,he pulled it all together with his life. Both good guys. Hoyt's Mother was a true dear friend of mine and helped me with many Artist from out here in Southern California. Leo J.Eiffert,Jr.
