First Review - Third Coast Music Gives 4 Stars
Quote: |
The first review is in - you can pick up your copy where Third Coast Music is distributed in Texas. For those of you that can't pick one up, here's the review:
"Ken Irwin the music lover is a big fan of Leslie Sloan, and, indeed, what's not to love? Already an outstanding real country singer, much admired by FAR DJs and the like, and with a growing regional following, her third album is not only a major leap forward in confidence and style - shaping each individual word to maximum effect, she really sounds like a star - it's entirely original material, and if someone told you some of her songs were actually covers of early 60s hits, you'd have to be supremely confident in your knowledge of the period to argue the toss. More likely, you'd think I'm Done With Leaving, I Can Get Over You, In The Matter Of Me And You and the sensational You Left Me A Long Time Ago, somehow slipped by you. For all these reasons, Ken Irwin the record label exec had to pass on signing Sloan to Rounder. Her appeal is also her problem, the star she sounds like is from some 50 years ago. Though she sails under the flag of convenience of honky tonk, she really sings and writes Hard Country, a subgenre, neatly summarized by the title of Barbara Ching's book Wrong's What I Do Best, that has all but fallen off the musical map, perhaps because it was so quickly coopted by countrypolitan. Splitting her time between bars, divorce courts and packing her bags, Sloan celebrates, if that's the word I want, the messy emotional lives of exactly the kind of people country music used to be for and about." ------John Conquest, Third Coast Music, June 2008

Fantastic!! Pretty sweet review. Probably a typo on the "Ricky David", which does not help you get known as a producer, though. |

If you like real honky tonk music this Cd is for you. I caught Leslie and Ricky at Traders Village today. Outstanding, WOW, and man that's good come to mind. Catch them if you can but make sure you get the cd. They have a way of not leaving the cd player. LOL Congrad's to Miss Leslie and the Juke Jointer it is well deserved. _________________ ShowPro SD10, Mullens RP, Bose S1 Pro, GK MB200, MB500, Bugera T50 Tube amp with SlidgeRig, TC HOF reverb effect. |

Thanks John; for the kind words and promo, and was mighty nice seeing you out there.
Thanks again James for the great support you are for this band....>we love to play and aim to please and out of over 100 CD's I've recorded on; this is the best one to date. Do you know how I know?? Well you ask??....Everything I played on; I usually listen to it and say: "well that's nice what a good project"...and rarely ever listen to it again.
This CD "Between the Whiskey and the Wine" just has something to it.....I listen to it> Blast it in my car....or whatever....just seems I can't get enough of it.
You'd think I'd be tired of hearing it?? NOT!!!!! Sure I'm probably a little bias.....but coming from somebody that rarely and really doesn't like to listen to music anymore.....I just can't get enough.
Get it ....and get Miss Leslie.....and GET real honky Tonk.
Oh and here's a sample of every song on this page to give you a taste> http://cdbaby.com/cd/missleslie4
Enjoy.

I just had to bump this thread since I have just ordered all of Miss Leslie's CD's from CD baby. This gal can sing great and she plays a pretty good fiddle too. The musicians behind her are also great ; Randy Lindley plays great guitar, and some great steel from Bill Howard and of course our own Ricky D. This is real country music at it's best. Don't miss out! |

Mike, you are in for a treat. The "Whiskey" cd features forum bro Dave Biller on guitar, with perfectly tasteful chops. The "Between the Whiskey and the Wine" cd shows us that Ricky and Miss Leslie are gaining momentum and are truly growing as artists, and that the follow-up projects will certainly be more pleasing yet. |
