Who played steel on the studio recording of "just came in to get my baby"?

I know Lloyd did a lot of Faron's sessions. So I would guess it's him.

Or Weldon. This intro/turnaraound is very reminiscent of some of Weldon's wilder Connie Smith intros. So maybe him then?

Or was it Crawford on the studio cut also?

Crawford sure does a dynamite job on this live version.
.
.

Speaking of Faron and session steelers, I first discovered and met Bobbe Seymour by inquiring about a WILD steel lick in Faron's cut of a ballad called "What's he doing in my world". It is FANTASTIC!!!

Paul,

Thanks for the link to the clip w/ Doug Jernigan. I'd never have recognized him. He's my virtual (via DVD) instructor.

I just assumed it was crawford, since they said it was. It's not Doug or Dickie.

One of my all time favorite tunes. It sure looks like Mr. Overby playing, and if you listen closely--just after the fiddle break and before the steel break it sounds like Faron says "Alright there Dickey".

I would say by the hand technique used that it is Jimmie Crawford.

I think we've concluded that it is Crawford in the video in the original post.

The second video is DJ. He's the only one that can play with his semi-fist. Just think what he could do if he loosened up his hand, haha.

Here's Jimmie's intro from the Faron Young YouTube video of 'I Just Came To Get My Baby' that Marty originally posted.

Back in the late eighties I met Jimmie when I went out to Hendersonville to pick up the JCH guitar he had built for me. Jimmie took time out from his busy schedule to spend time with me, showing me around Hendersonville, taking me to restaurants and bars, and introducing me to lots of people. He was just as nice as could be. I even got to meet Lloyd Green who spent an hour in the shop trying my steel while making my jaw drop with those famous bar slants he does. I just cannot say enough nice things about Jimmie. Apart from being a great player and a great builder, he was a truly great human being who had a wonderful sense of humor, and a heart of gold. I miss him.

I stand corrected. I wouldn't swear it's Crawford, I'll take your word for it, but you're right it's not Overby
