Anyone care to share with me some info on the MusicMan 112 tube amp. I tried a used one out the other with a Tele guitar and I was amazed on the clarity this tube amp has. Quite impressive. I would like to know more about this make and model. When were they built and others who have had them, used them and like them.

Thanks

Bill

I have a MusicMan 112 RD. They were made in the '70s, and have a solid state preamp and tube power amp. It is a very small, lightweight (44 lbs.), loud 100 watt amp. It plays very clean, with lots of headroom. But for pedal steel it has very hard, piercing highs that I cannot get mellowed out. For regular guitar it would seem to be a one-trick pony, clean playing only. However, it might make a good jazz amp, and might be very good with stomp boxes to create dirt and distortion.

I used to own an 80's RD 112, 50-watt hybrid (tube and solid state). It was a compact, lightweight solution for pedal steel but, as David says, the highs were a bit piercing. I used to dial them out with a Boss GE7 EQ.

I wish I had it back. It was a great little amp. Chet Atkins used one live for years, apparently.

I have a musicman rp112. it is a great amp... I just had it reworked and played a 5 hour set sunday with it (playing guitar--> my gretsch and tele) and I dig it!

http://www.musicmanamps.com/

you can get info there and schematics... the rp's have a phase shifter and rd's have a distortion box built in.

I have become a nut for picking up cheap musicman amps and fixing them up... I also have a 2X10 and it is a great amp... both have lots of power and headroom and a rich sound.... Leo got this one right too if you ask me.

Bill, I don't have and amp like yours but I do have and use a MusicMan HD-212 One Fifty which is a 150 watt hybrid which'll blow a Twin Reverb right off the stage. I love my MM. I play lead and steel both so on gigs where I double on steel I use the 1st "throw-a-way" channel that no one ever uses for that. I just use a Boss digital delay and a Goodrich Matchbox and that channel sounds as good as a Nashville 400 IMHO on steel. Mine has the built in Phase Shifter which I use a lot. You can really nail that old Waylon Jennings tone with it. Here's a shot of my amp with a couple of Teles in front of it...........JH in Va.
