I know this has been discussed before, but I can't readily find it. The string in my Emmons volume pedal broke today. Is there any kind of string that I can easily get tomorrow to replace it? Does it need to be waxed or anything special?
Also, is there a trick for getting the string through the guide? It's pretty difficult to reach that small hole -- is it best to take the pedal apart?
I have a gig tomorrow evening and would greatly appreciate the advice. Thanks, Boo |

Boo, the string needs to be woven nylon, not just twisted. Look at your mini-blinds. That type string is perfect. Some guys use fishing line which I have not tried but I am sure the right kind would be fine. If you use the woven nylon try burning the end with a soldering gun or match, the end will melt together making it easier to thread thru the hole and also keep it from unravelling.

Thanks so much, Jerry. Should woven nylon string be easily accessible at a regular hardware store?
Thanks again, Boo |

Didn't Bobbe or someone recently mention using a waxed shoe string? The kind that comes in men's dress shoes.
Those can be purchased at Target, Wal-Mart, K-Mart, etc. |

Boo, I have not seen woven string at a hardware store in a while, I have only seen twisted. I did not know about Bobbe's mentioning a shoe string but I believe I would check into that.

Yep, I find the mini-blind string to be perfect and there is enough on one blind to do several pedals.

I've said it before and I'll say it again: a spool of braided, yellow nylon construction string. Mine has the brand name 'Stringliner." It works great, 100 feet for $3.75. That's about 50 lifetime supplies worth. Get it at any Home Depot, Lowe's, etc. _________________ Mullen RP D10, Peavey NV112, Hilton volume. Hound Dog reso. Piles of other stuff. |

There is some real tough fishing line out now that will not break and it will cut your fingers off if you grab the line as a [ TUNA ]fish is running
If you have a friend who fishes ask him to save what he cuts off when he ties a new rig on their line
You always pull off about 2 feet to get good string
look at this stuff

you can find small boxes at a good tackle shop we fisher men use it for leaders _________________ I am trying to play a Harlin Brothers 1956 Multi Kord 6 String 4 Pedal Steel Guitar

I go along with the string from the mini blinds.
I have used it to replace a broken string in my Goodrich pedal.
