I just bought this CD, because of the song "Home"!

I love it! Blake is a fantastic country singer to me. Anyway, you can hear Paul, Dan, Scott Sanders on 1 tune and Timothy DeArmitt playing slide on 1 tune.
14 Tracks, I got the last copy at my local Walmart.

Sorry Theresa, Blake totally made that song a piece of crap. Home is one of my favorite songs (as Michael Buble did it), and it makes me sick to hear Blake's version. Used to be a Blake Shelton fan until this.

A few years ago, Blake came into a club where I was playing. I was just after one of his concerts.

He got up and played guitar and sang with our band for about an hour. It seemed like he knew every old country and old rock song ever written. I was really impressed a guy of his (young) age knew so many tunes. His Daddy taught him well!

Almost all of the girls that followed him there looked like beautiful models. They were all smiling at him.. The guy's got a rough life! Winking

Our band does "The More I Drink" off that CD. I like the song, not much steel in it, but I pretty much just try to fit in Smile

Did a bill last weekend in Beaufort SC with Blake. Best show I have seen in a while. No rock tunes. He covered alot of Conway Twitty. I will have to say I really enjoyed his show. More so that alot I have seen lately. His key board player & drummer are my neighbors. They love their gig. Glad he is one of the few keeping it country.

Theresa, I totally agree with you on Blake's cut of "Home", it's an emotional tune. I like watching the video on GAC also which is very well made. I think Blake's one of the newer artists who can really sell a song. I liked his cut of "Some Beach" also which told quite a story of things that go on in life everyday.........JH in Va.

I really like Blake Shelton's music. He's got a great country voice and he presents himself well.
No cut-off t-shirts on the Opry for him and he's not at all scared of an audience. Smile
A pretty good guitar player when he has to be and he seems to like steel guitar as well. We need more like him.
Theresa, good call! Wink

Let me add that I do like Blake Shelton. He is one of the true country acts left. He's one of the few newer artists I would actually pay to go see. I just don't think he did a good job on this song. If you want to hear a real emotional version of this song, look up the original by Michael Buble. I just don't hear sincere emotion in Blake's version. I do wish him success with the song as he deservers the success. Plus the song itself is simply a great song (even when I sing it - yuk).

A comment was made about the top notch musicians used on the Shelton record. I will not doubt that. But, when I first started hearing the Shelton version, the music was so close to the original that I thought they just used some of the tracks from the original. Take the lead guitar part. Not only was it played note for note (or at least so close you can't tell) with the same tone used on the original. I have no doubt that Mason, Galbraith or other Nashville players couldn't emulate the tone and playing.

I think what bugs me most is the southern accent (I have nothing against southern accents) that just didn't seem to fit the song. I seem to remember some backround vocals that just didn't sound right.

Theresa, I have no problem. I just have a right to express an opinion. I will admit that I could have worded it better and apologize if I offended you. I love most of your posts, look up to you, and usually agree with you maybe 80% of the time. But, we will just have to agree to disagree on this one. This song has a very special meaning to me (at times bringing tears to my eyes) , and I just prefer the original.

I just want to apologize to Richard. I sounded mean. Sad

I haven't heard Michael's version. I do love his singing too,and Michael is a co-writer for "HOME"!

I was just now listening to the Country Count Down and Blake's "Home" is #1! Smile
I know they both are very happy! Smile This makes 4 # 1's for Blake.

Gregg and I love the guitar parts too! Smile

Thanks Theresa. I would eliminate my post, but I always believe in letting the original post stand so people can see how over the top I (and other) can get.

Definately get a copy of Michaels version. Even better, I got a DVD he did from PBS (might be able to find it on Amazon by now). I happen to like the Sinatra type big band stuff, and Michael nails it perfectly.

Sometimes when I get so attached to a song, it's hard for me to listen to other versions. I have the bad habit of comparing it to the original (or whatever version that I fell on love with). A great example is Farewell Party. Gene Watson's version is the king for me. It's hard to listen to Alan Jackson (although a great version) and Joe Nichols (a version I don't like).

Have a great day , Theresa

I checked out Michael's version on YouTube. I think it's great! Smile

Then I checked out Michael & Blake singing it live in Nashville on YouTube. Wow, You can tell they really admire each other. Two totally different artists singing with great emotion! Smile I recommend both versions. Of course, I'm partial
to Blake's! Smile

I agree with Richard, ha! All singers get in the way of the music! Laughing

Sorry, but since we are just voicing opinions, honesty is a good policy, however, voicing MY opinion may not be,,,,,,,,,,,, Whoa!

I just think poetry and music shouldn't be mixed. (this should start a discussion)

When I sing the rats run away! Laughing I like music, not yelling. Hard to hear the music over a lot of the yelling nowadays,

I'm just not a fan of anything in so called "country music" in this day and age. I'm a fan of quality music, (and steel guitar) very little music today has escaped the "teeny bop" world. Steel guitar doesn't have to stay or be trapped in this inmature world. There IS an entire world of real music to be consumed outside my wonderful town of Nashville. I spend much time enjoying it. As the years go by, I see less and less being manufactured in this town I have grown to love for it's many other atributes.

Producers in Nashville? Most are account exects, not music producers.

The industry seems to have discarded the great fans of yesteryear and is aiming the sales of "NEW" country music only at the youngsters of today, sure, I'm for the things the youngsters like, but not at the expense of the more mature minds that have loved this great country music of the 40 50 60 70 and some 80s.

Today? Give me a break, even George Straight is in deep trouble with sales.

The world is full of great music, and a lot of it is the country music of yesteryear. We all have different tastes in what we want to hear, and many different opinions, now you know mine! (up to a point) Smile

Allen Jackson? What is his musical chart life expectency in this day and time? Enjoy him while you can as you are wondering what happend to all the other great music that isn't being replaced. Pick up a 10 year old copy of Billboard and see what we have lost, then a 20 year old copy, like Rock and Roll? Hang on, country is getting there pretty fast. Listen to the drums, distortion guitar and all the doubled voices, it ain't just coming,,,,,,,,,,it's here! What's next? Country Rap? Save me!

Singing? Naw, I'll just take some instrumental good music, but unfortunately, "Clear Channel" won't permit instrumentals to be played on the radio, not AM or FM anyway. A shame we have no freedom to choose what WE want to really hear in country music.

Sorry, I should have saved this for my news letter, Very Happy

You know, Shocked

The song "Home" by Blake Shelton is a ballad Bobbe.
Great song written by Michael Buble.

George Strait is doing OK with 56 # 1's! Smile
Allan Jackson just had his 29th #1 " Good Time"! Smile

It's good in the Steel World! Smile

Bobbe.....I sure do hope that we will never go that route.
I just told Theresa that Alan should keep doing what he is doing right now.A lot of country fans depend on him and his wonderful music.IMO is Alan the only one with Mark Chesnutt that still stand strong in this spoiled rotten Country & Western world.

But of course...this is only my humble opinion and I don't have a lot of weight to put into this.

But I hope that the Country-music turns around and picks up where it left off.

Ron

P.S

Alan's new cd is a true tribute to the old country.Perfect and clean.......Clean as Country and Western should be.

Excellent post Bobbe,

It's a new world now. The music business business sure has changed too. Juke Boxes now have 80,000 songs in them. DJ's (replacing real musicians) show up for weddings with hard drives full of songs they downloaded for free. Albums get released and the next day everybody's got a copy they downloaded for FREE!

Question: How can any recording artist make a living when the product is being duplicated almost instantly?

Answer: They must get on the radio, then out on the road and charge a super high price for admission. Then they hope that people show up and they have enough money left over after they pay their band, pa, soundmen, roadies, their gas, the bus and truck rentals, their lawyers, accountants, manager, publicists, the IRS, and finally their record company for all of the videos, production and promotion costs which are paid out of the Artist's small royalties... all from a record nobody buys because they can get it for free.

The artist is stuck listening to people telling him what songs to sing, and how he can make some money in this business. If they are wrong, he's screwed and they find another artist to ruin.

IMHO, This business has changed and not for the better. It's become an industry full of idiots that get paid to ruin people's lives.

Blake's a nice guy. I hope Blake ends up with a couple of dimes he can rub together. It will be a rare case if he does. In the music business of today!

Thersa, A girl here in Hendersonville named Taylor Swift just made over 280 million in sales but the"music" still sucks from a muscal view point. The amount of sales has nothing to do with the quality of the music, Allen Jacksone not withstanding. I don't care how many number ones any of these guys or girls have, this only proves my point that stupidity sells, not quality. You have proven my point! Smile ( Achey Breaky Heart point, Laughing , now here's a great classic, also proves my point)

Danny Bates, yes! Having an former wife that had several top 10 recordings , showed me what the industry really is, and now me being on Sun and Ipod satelite along with dancing with the "elite" exectutives in the upper ranks in Nashville has given me a good perspective on the horrible politics of this corrupt business. Number of sales and quality music don't have any corrolation I'm afraid. I don't compare talent and money, they don't go together. (a very few possible exceptions).

Ha! Ha! Yes Danny, CRAP! Whoa!
