Each time I enter a new level on any folder in my Explorer, I have to change the 'Views' to 'List', which is my preference for viewing contents of all folders.

Is there a way to recursively change ALL folder contents (at all levels) to 'List' from the default of 'Large Icons'?

I don't seem to find anything of the kind under Control Panel.

Once you have the folder set the way you want, you can go to Tools > Folder Options in the menu bar at the top. Then go to the second tab in the Folder Options dialog called "View" and click the button in the top left that reads "Apply to All Folders", and answer yes to the prompt.

This will set all folders in Windows to look that way.

If you need something that will only work on a particular set of folders, check out the 4th post on this page:

There is a script there that you can run which will do just that. Be sure to follow the directions to get the results you want. I ran the script and it worked fine for me, but it may be overkill for what you're looking to do.

John, my Menu bar only has 'Organize', 'Views', 'Uninstall or change a program'. 'Map network drive' and 'Open Control Panel' on it--no 'Tools' option. Am I looking in the wrong spot?

Perhaps I should have told you that I have Vista, sorry.

I'll have to leave now but I'll check back tomorrow.

Things like that used to be simple using Windows XP, but I can't make them work in Vista. For example, I can't make Windows Explorer display columns showing file sizes, file types, and file creation date, unless I manually select file type, file size, and file creation date one at as time from a long list of options. I have to do this each time I open an Explorer window.

Earnest, I upgraded yesterday to SP1 so I am now waiting for new bugs to show up.

John, I compared my wife's XP Explorer to my Vista Explorer and there is indeed a major difference in the options of the Menu bar and there seem no way to change the bar options. So I guess I'm stuck.

Thanks though.
